William Jennings Bryan

William Jennings Bryan was an American orator, politician, presidential candidate, lawyer, etc.

Bryan hailed from Nebraska. He was a Populist. He ran for the presidency on that ticket, but ended up merging with the Democrats. However, they were both defeated by William McKinley and his killer fat-cats in 1896 and 1900. He kept running, and he kept losing.

He became secretary of state in 1912 but resigned to protest how Wilson handled the Lusitania affair. His daughter was the first female American ambassador. Then in 1925 he had his one last shot at greatness: he prosecuted and testified in the Scopes trial. It was a mixed victory. Then he died.
