Character Background

Noriko Takaya was designed by Chris Dark as a main character that was different from others he had seen on the board. Unsure of herself, Noriko strived to be the best she could be, but often many times fell short. A child separated from her father and, at times, reality, she longed for a father figure to replace her own, which often many times got her used like a tool, most notably by Ingram Pliskin. However, she did not forever stay as a useless girl, as through hard work and guts Noriko rose to be one of the strongest Newtypes of her time, before her life was tragically ended in battle.

Biography

Early Life

Born to then-USF admiral Yuzo Takaya and housewife Aoi Takaya on September 12, AC 261, Noriko was a happy child, and extremely close to her father. Their time together would be short lived in between his trips into space, which would sometimes last for years, but, to Admiral Takaya, if it meant that Noriko would have a future free of things such as the Gemini, the Sakura Virus or the Barton Foundation, it was a small price to pay. Unfortunately, Yuzo would not live to see his daughter grow up.

During the attacks on UEG ships by the Black Dragoon pirate group and the increase in the Gen'Yaku Syndicate's drug running activities, Yuzo's fleet was caught off guard while chasing a drug running ship by the Black Dragoon. His flagship disabled in the chaos, the admiral ordered his men to abandon ship with whatever escape pods were left. Giving his place on the last one to an injured seaman named Leon Aergo, Yuzo returned to the bridge of his ship to see the battle through. Details are scarce on what exactly caused it, but the bridge of the ship was destroyed in the firefight, along with the admiral, whose body was never found. His sudden death was the final push Noriko needed to decide upon her future: She'd go up into space, and finish her father's mission for him. She'd help maintain peace and order for future generations.

AWARE Trainee

Once out of high school, Noriko prepared herself to join an academy. Deciding that being on a ship would take too long for her to accomplish her goals, she settled on being a Mobile Suit pilot, and joined the newly-found AWARE. Though trained by experts, Noriko had a problem with watching the monitors while handling the controls, a problem that crippled her abilities severely when she went out against orders to protect the city of Ascalon. There, she would unknowingly meet her rival, a young Cronos pilot and clone of the GHOST pilot Asuka Himemiya, Pharsti Suvota. Though saved by Kjinnis Mono for the most part, Noriko was able to awkwardly down an enemy MS in the chaos by flinging her suit's vibro-axe at the enemy, mimicking an attack out of an old robot show she watched as a child.

This, coupled with the fact that Pharsti was unable to kill her, lead the Cronos spy and AWARE major Ingram Pliskin to to take interest in the girl. She was selected as a test subject by him for one of Cronos' black-bag newtype research, and Ingram himself assigned her Cronos equipment, from the Gespenst Mk.2, the first MS she could handle properly thanks to the Direct Motion Link System, straight down to a customized flight suit. It was during her training with the Gespenst that she met Cale Julleram, a fellow Newtype and medic, after she was injured while practicing using her Gespenst. Once she was stabilized and her life secure, she was returned to Cronos, who had put the girl in as a Cronos test pilot to avoid the Brahman guards on the ship to imprison her. Noriko would later be sent back to the Brahman system during a police action to free Kjinnis, who was kidnapped by the Brahman army, and Cale, which was an assignment Major Pliskin gave her. There, she gained more MS kills, and even defeated Pharsti's CTPX-006 Granteed, only to later be defeated and captured by Pharsti in her new Gespenst XN. Noriko was labeled as M.I.A. by AWARE for a short time, until the attack on Tata, in which she was instead labeled a traitor.

Cronos Pilot

Waking up to find Ingram in her room, Noriko was lead to believe that, after the battle she had been in, AWARE had suffered a coup d'état and gone corrupt. Cronos had sided with Brahman army to stop the now "corrupt" AWARE from ruling mankind, and as such it was now her duty to assist them. Noriko bought into the lies of her CO fully, not suspecting that he would deceit her, and prepared herself for the next battle: A battle that didn't take long to happen. Just after she met Aaron McAmis, a man who would become quite important in her life later on, AWARE struck the mining base on Tata, where they were on. However, AWARE would be caught off guard by the true reason of this base in the resulting battle: It was one of the various places the heads behind Cronos housed their new weapons. The Kestrel-class Battle-Carrier Tanlladwyrand its' new Valkyrie and Sturmvogel Mobile Suits were the main forces on Tata that held off the AWARE forces (As well as disabled the Asura-class ship Satoki) long enough for Cronos Special Forces to cause a chain-explosion that would destroy the moon and anything left on it.

As Cronos fought back and kept AWARE busy on multiple fronts with the Brahman Army, Noriko and Pharsti would appear in multiple battles with their allies, moving back and forth as needed (occasionally being tested on as well), until they would be pulled back by higher-ups and prepared for something new: The Astranagant and Dis Astranagant, two units made specifically for them. With the T-Link System in place, Noriko found that piloting the menacing-looking machine was quite easy. She and Pharsti was sent to destroy "military bases" behind enemy lines, though while Noriko saw enemy mobile suits and other assorted targets, Pharsti saw their real forms: Civilians, which gave rise to AWARE and non-combatants labeling the Astranagants as the "Black Angels of Death". Noriko would find out later about this, and, in a fit of rage, shot Ingram in the chest. Realizing what she had done, Cronos' real intentions, and the fact that she could never go back to any side of this war, she stole the Astranagant and fled.

An Unsung War

Having hid the Astranagant in a warehouse on a small colony as she learned how to undo the modifications to its' targeting system, Noriko for a time disappeared from the radars of both Cronos and AWARE. As the war raged on around her, Noriko played the role of the innocent civilian, have lost her reason to fight in the first place; She had become the evil she sought to defeat, and contemplated suicide on many occasions. However, soldiers cannot escape battle, no matter how hard they try, and one day the small colony Noriko had called home was brought into chaos as both a Cronos Special Forces unit assigned to hunt the girl down and retrieve the Astranagant and an AWARE patrol party came across her.

The Cronos SF unit was led by Aaron, who Noriko had developed a crush on during her time in Cronos, while the patrol party was led by Smith Toren, the young trainee whose graduation ceremony had been the reason Noriko had been on Ascalon. Both, having realized that the Astranagant's pilot was none other than their friend, worked together to hold off both forces from getting to the warehouse where the Astranagant was, which was Noriko's new hiding place. As she sat in her cockpit, sobbing as the sounds of battle reminded her of her own sins, she listened as Aaron and Smith fought hopelessly against the superior numbers, as they both found out they knew Noriko, as they both tried to contact Noriko, as Smith begged Noriko to fight, and as Aaron realized that Cronos had played her as a fool. There would be one last transmission from both that Noriko would hear, one that shook her to the very core: Their deaths.

Both had died protecting her, and now, Cronos and AWARE were destroying the colony, fighting over who would take home their prize. It was then that Noriko realized that sitting here, sobbing as people died outside wasn't the right thing to do, even if fighting had only led her to horrible conclusions before. The old Noriko, "Noriko the Newbie", "Noriko the Crybaby", would die in the cockpit of the Astranagant, and she would be reborn.

"Astranagant... Take it all! Take everything you want from me, my emotions, my memories, my life, just please... please... BECOME MY SWORD AGAIN!" The Astranagant's eye brightened, as the T-Link System responded to its' pilot. As the Mobile Suit rose, the warehouse's roof being torn asunder as its' wings activated, both the AWARE patrol party and the Cronos Special Forces unit stopped fighting as the demonic Suit stood in the wreckage of the warehouse. Both parties would be decimated, their Mobile Suits standing no chance against one of Cronos' strongest weapons, as Noriko set out on a mission to diffuse the war by her own means.

A Time Diver

One of Noriko's first goals would be to find and stop Asuka Mao and Ingram Pliskin, the two people she knew were behind Cronos as well as the creation of the Astranagants. She would get her first chance when she snuck onto a battlefield that she learned Pliskin was also on. Fighting her way through Cronos and AWARE forces alike, making sure to disable as many as she could rather than destroy, she came across the Astranagant's older sibling: The R-Gun Rivale, Ingram's unit. The two fought a heated battle, as Noriko demanded Ingram explain why he betrayed her trust. Ingram's only responses were chuckles and the occasional insult to her intelligence and reasoning, mocking Noriko for not being able to understand Cronos' true intentions. Though the Astranagant was the stronger of the two units, Noriko was the weaker of the two pilots, and as the Astranagant was about to be destroyed by the R-Gun Rivale's Axion Buster, the Cross Gate Paradigm System automatically activated, pulling the Astranagant out of harm's way of the Axion Buster by sending it back about 20 years in time. As the Axion Buster created a black hole of its' own, albeit smaller than the Astranagant's Axion Cannon, Ingram could only assume Noriko and the Astranagant were destroyed, and soon another Astranagant was finished, and a new pilot selected as Cronos Industries fell, revealing that it was nothing more than a cover for the true organization behind it.

This pilot, Lucia Blunestud, was a Cronos "manufactured" Cyber-Newtype, meaning that she'd have to rely on Cronos for the medication she needed, and therefore nulled the concerns of her rebelling like Noriko. Lucia and her modified Astranagant Dei would cause chaos for AWARE until Noriko returned, her appearance with the Astranagant causing Lucia to go crazy just long enough to be destroyed along with her Astranagant Dei. The sudden reappearance of Noriko was hidden by the death of Lucia, and once again the Astranagant attacked the R-Gun Rivale, Noriko showing impressive prowess this time, having apparently practiced while she was on her "vacation". The R-Gun Rivale was critically damaged, and Ingram was mortally wounded right before the end of the battle, and as Noriko charged the Astranagant's Infinity Cylinder, Ingram launched his last attack.

"If I die here... I won't... go... alone!"As the R-Gun Rivale was torn apart by the time/space anomaly caused by the Infinity Cylinder, Ingram attempted to crush Noriko's mind, succeding in leaving her comatose for some time. However, Pharsti and her Dis Astranagant, who had arrived at the battle just long enough to see the destruction of Ingram, had helped Noriko by taking most of Ingram's assault and rendering it null. Once again, Noriko was back on her feet, though this time, she was once again with AWARE. They gave her just long enough to visit her mother and older sister to assure them she was alive and well, before she joined the attack force assigned to deliver the final blow and end this war.

The Final Battle

As AWARE fought the last forces against them, Noriko and Pharsti met again, once more on opposite sides of a conflict. Both had decided it was time to finish their rivalry, and as the battle continued around them, the Astranagant and the Dis Astranagant were enveloped in a struggle of life or death. Pharsti and her low opinions on mankind fought against Noriko and her beliefs, and as both machines were reaching their breaking point, it came down for one final attack for each of them. The Astranagant's Infinity Cylinder against the Dis Astranagant's Ain Soph Aur.

"Time flows backwards..." Noriko began, glaring at the demonic entity in front of her.

"Now return to nothing..."Pharsti said, doing the same.

"YOU RETURN TO NOTHING!" "IN THE MIDST OF THIS INFINITE LIGHT!" Both attacks were launched at the same time, hitting head-on in the middle of the distance between the two Cronos superweapons. As the attacks enveloped both Astranagants and anything unfortunate to be around them, Noriko sent one last message out.

"I'm sorry Cale, but we won't see each other again!" With one last promise broken, Noriko and Pharsti and their Mobile Suits disappeared into nothingness. The war would end with AWARE's victory, and Noriko would be put down this time not as Missing In Action, but instead Missing would be replaced by a new word; "Killed".
