Take Maria to Cinzaporto

From Create Your Own Story

It takes you about a week to sail to Cinzaporto, a small outpost where the Portuguese trade with the natives. Visibly nervous, Maria takes you and a few of your men to the biggest and wealthiest-looking house in the town. You knock at the door. A servant answers, then goes back inside to fetch his employer. Maria's father turns out to be a fat, middle-aged man, who seems rather surprised (but not especially happy) to see your captive.

"Her again?" he asks, annoyed. "What's that thief doing here?"

"Um, we're bringing your daughter Maria back to you," you say. "If you can pay, of course."

"My daughter?" exclaims the fat man. "This is one of our maids, and an incompetent one too! She fled my house a month ago with some of my wife's clothes and jewelry."

Your men look at Maria quizzically.

"Okay, so I lied," she admits, her face reddening. "I was afraid of what you'd do to me."

"A week!" one of your pirates snarls at you. "We lost a whole week because of her lies! Why did you believe her, captain? What are we gonna do with her now?"

"I can take her back," says the man, "but I'm not paying more than five coppers for her."

"Very well, take her."

"No, we'll keep her."
