Go and see if anyone is in the house

"No one survived that crash, Mel," you say quietly, eyeballing the wreckage. "All the noise and light is going to attract some serious attention. We don't need to go anywhere near that thing." You shut the car off and point to the house. "We need to go in there and sit this out."
"Sit out what?" Melanie says, obviously still shocked, obviously still upset.
"The mass of trouble the plane crash is going to bring," you say, reaching for the locks on the door. "We need to be inside, and quiet."
Melanie doesn't say anything else. She just stares at the burning wreckage as you get out of the car. You go around to the other side and get her out, then take the steps up onto the porch. Staring through the windows, you see only darkness inside. Listening at the door, you hear nothing. You check the knob, and find it's unlocked, which worries you.
You head into the house with Melanie in tow.
