You react without thinking, swinging your foot up and then thrusting it forward into the behemoth's gut. The weight of your kick works, toppling him backwards and sending him sprawling. He quickly begins to get up from the floor, and you kick at him again, this time right upside his head. The heel of your shoe connects in a solid blow just along his jawline, and he tumbles back down to the floor.
Reaching over, you pick up a small lamp from an end table, yank the cord from the wall, and use it like a mace. You swing the lamp down into the brute's head over and over, then again and again. Your fury takes control as his blood spills out on the floor, and you hit him again. Then raise the bloodied lamp and hit him again. Then again. Then again. Just as you go to swing one last blow into the oozing puddle of his head, you feel Melanie's hand on your shoulder.
"He's dead," she says. "Stop."
