Episode 1 problems
Yeah, I've got a couple of questions about Episode 1. They're at Talk:Episode 1: Pilot. VDZ 17:15, 21 September 2007 (EDT)
The last couple of seconds need a name
At the end of every episode (or for the newer episodes, the second-to-last scene), there's a Yu-Gi-Oh! scene with some other audio clip, usually a reference to something else (you know what I mean). However, to describe those parts, we need to have a name for them...because The part right at the end of the episode which is usually a reference to something consists of Yugi saying 'Get out of my head!' to Yami Yugi isn't the best way to describe that.VDZ 17:15, 21 September 2007 (EDT)
- It seems to be called a 'stinger'. VDZ 04:04, 22 September 2007 (EDT)
- It seems that the technical term is "post-credits scene", and that it also goes by "stinger" and "tag". I think we could go with stinger, it sounds better than post-credits scene (especially since YGO:TAS has no credits), and besides, it's shorter. Tatterdemalion 00:30, 23 September 2007 (EDT)
Name templates
If you've edited Episode 1's article, you'll have seen that instead of listing the characters names in the script, templates are used instead. This is so that if we, for example, would decide that Yami should be listed as 'Pharaoh' instead, we do not have to edit every single page; change the template, and it changes on every page using the template. To use a template, type two {s, followed by the first letter of the character's first name, then the first letter of the character's last name, then two }s. For example, in Yugi Muto's case it would be YM. Exceptions:
- Yami Yugi is YY
- Pegasus is P
Of course, you can just write them down as Yugi or Kaiba if you like, changing it isn't difficult.VDZ 17:15, 21 September 2007 (EDT)
Wiki help needed
The wiki is calling this wiki 'Yugiohtas' instead of Yu-Gi-Oh! the Abridged Wiki. Does anybody know how to change this?VDZ 17:15, 21 September 2007 (EDT)
Transcripts
I'm sorry, but do we really need transcripts for entire episodes? I mean, I see the purpose of this wiki, and I'm entirely behind it, but wouldn't it be better served if we were to organize the information in a more...organized way? And is a full transcript really necessary? I mean, if someone wants to find out the entire text, couldn't they just watch the episode? I think this wiki should devote more time to explaining the intricacies of the series, and each episode as is necessary, focusing more time on important detail and background information, and less on ver batim recapitulation. Still, that's just my view. Tatterdemalion 21:20, 21 September 2007 (EDT)
- Full transcripts make it easier to look up a quote. For example, if you write in references that Yugi's line of "Dark Magician! You are not a gun! You are what you choose to be! Now choose!" is a reference to the Iron Giant, the reader may want to check back to read that part again and think "Ah, so that was the obscure movie reference Shahdi was talking about!" Of course, a full transcript isn't required for an episode article...but the more information the better.212.187.108.75 01:59, 22 September 2007 (EDT) That was me, forgot to log in.VDZ 02:00, 22 September 2007 (EDT)
- We could link to the Yu-Gi-Oh! Wikia for the transcripts when we're too lazy to write it in the article.VDZ 03:56, 22 September 2007 (EDT)
Format
Okay, I wrote this once and accidentally lost it before I could save, so you're getting the condensed version
I think we need to establish a definite format for the pages for each episodes. Now, one thing that I noticed was the "references" section at the end, which I assume would be used to list the background information for the popular culture references. Now, considering that every page would hypothetically have a transcript of the episode, it seems that this would be a bit redundant, if not unnecessarily wasteful. Considering that we would have the transcript, rather than listing each pop culture reference in a list that people would have to sift through, we could easily dissect the transcript and insert the information regarding the reference into it, perhaps in a certain format, such as directly under the line, italicized in parentheses. THis would make the whole thing easier to navigate, both for someone who is reading over the entire transcript, or someone who wants to reference the background of a specific line.
Now, if you think this is a good idea, that's fine. If not, we could so something a bit more fancy. We could easily set up a method of recording such references as footnotes. That is, we could mark the section in the transcript, then mark it at the bottom of the page.
I also think we should extend this beyond pop culture references. Several things to take into consideration are 1), the use of music in the series as humor, for which I suggest we develop a system of including the name of the song played in the background by some means other than writing the whole thing out, 2), exact quotes from the original anime, which are sometimes hard to spot, but of which the non-obviousness makes it more worthwhile to list on this wiki and 3), direct references to the series, which may deserve a mention, although there may be a problem considering that they are so frequent, and fairly repetitive.
Now, it may seem like I've said a lot, but that's not all. We now come to the stinger. I've noticed that almost always the stinger is an audio clip taken from somewhere else, and set to Yu-Gi-Oh! animation. As such, I suggest that we create a separate section for the stinger, and list 1), the audio, 2), where the quote comes from, and if necessary 3), where the visual comes from. SO it would look something like this:
Yugi (to Yami): Get out of my head! Get out of my head! (Family Guy, Season 2, episode 20)
Now, then there's my other idea, which I like a bit more, which is to create an entire page just for listing the stingers, and linking to it from each article. The page could have a table, which would look something like this:
Episode | Audio | Source |
---|---|---|
Episode...um, I forgot | Yugi (to Yami): Get out of my head! Get out of my head! | Family Guy, Season 2, episode 2 |
Now, naturally, it would include the proper number, but it would be pretty much the same (or different, if you like).
I know this is a lot, but tell me what you think. I'd like very much to year your feedback/your own ideas. Tatterdemalion 01:36, 23 September 2007 (EDT)
