"There was a time where we had thought we had reached the pinnacle of intelligence, gaining a full understanding of past and present. Our species thought that we were the ultimate race, and that no force could tear us from our seat of power.

We were wrong. Oh so horribly wrong." -Translated Vhozon Lore file

"The Necrons are a soul consuming race from an extremely grim dimension, our theories suggest they consume souls for their masters. They took out a few of our colonies and they demand our total demise, we won't do it without a fight."-Celestial Architects' War File on Necrons (Summary)

History

No one knows the exact origin of the Necrons. Some think they are from another entire galactic cluster, tetrations of light years away from ours. Others think that they may have come from an alternate reality altogether, and were brought through a dimensional rift. What is known by Vhozon mystics is that long long ago, before any known civilization was in its primordial stages, there was a race of creatures, known as the Necrontyr by modern tounge. The deadly rays of a nearby star constantly bombarded their planet, shortening their lifespans, slowly more and more, until they were threatened with extinction. They pushed the limits of technology and science, but to no avail. Finally, they struck a deal with the god of their stars, C'tan. For service to the god, they would obtain immortality. That, however, came at a horrible price.

The Necrontyr were turned into metal, near organic android like creatures. The Star God powered these androids with his own energy, now known as Gauss. C'tan then ordered them to build massive fleets of large Monoliths, their home bases for their attacks, Pylons, massive magic inhibiting superweapons, and Tomb Ships, massive carriers written about only in lore, and split himself into four entities; The Nightbringer, to slaughter the enemies of the Necrons, The Deceiver, to drive his enemies into insanity, The Void Dragon, to devour technology and incorporate it into the Necrons, and the Outsider, whose purpose is unknown to this day. He then gave the Necrons one mission; purge all life from the universe and allow the Star Gods to control over the universe.

Very little is known about what happened after that, until a strange rift brought a massive fleet of Necron tomb ships to this galactic cluster. They first came in contact with the Celestial Architects, who waged a fierce war against them for many millennia. Though very little is actually know about the course of the war, many races were lost in history, victims of the Necrons' attacks. In response, the Void Dragon created a new scarab swarm, one that prevented the Celestial Architects from reproducing. The Necrons kept their steady advance, eventually wiping out the Architects as any power. Thousands of years later, they finally went completely extinct.

The Vhozon, seeing their allies fall in battle, devised a plan of their own. The Necrons at a temporary weak point from their confrontation with the Celestial Architects, giving the Vhozon time to blitz them. After destroying their fleets, the Vhozon created an item known only as Soulice, which still remains a mystery as to its composition and physical appearance. All that is known is the Vhozon worked about the galaxy, using the Soulice to deactivate the Necron's power source (necessary for the Necron's existence so far away from the grasp of the Star Gods). The remaining Necrons were either wiped out or sent into stasis, deep blow the surface of different planets, undetected. The Vhozon, though victorious, were nearly wiped out in the process. They went into isolation near the edge of modern Federation space, and are rarely heard from.

Recently, though, the Necrons have begun to reawaken, sturring from their slumber from the fury of the battles by the living. Different reports of past wars now may link to Necron attacks, but the first documented assault was a force of five Monoliths on Finichia, where the Yoshi Bodyguards used the Metal Titan to destroy them. On Manshire, a Necron awakening destroyed a Federation force, but soon after, the planet was purged by a Vhozon mothership. The Slaughter of the Necroplis first started as a Vhozon attack on a Metal Army warzone. The assault was soon repeled by Federation and Metal forces. However, a Necron awakening then wiped out both sides, and the planet was later bombarded with nuclear weapons to prevent the spread of the Necrons. Finally, the largest force to date appeared on Chronis, the famed battle of nine armies. The Vhozon kept the Necrons at bay with a shard of Soulice, but the shard, along with their force, was destroyed when their mothership was incinerated by the Hellfire Cannon. The SWD sent in a task force to collapse the mines they spawned from on their power source. The Necrons then were all deactiavated, leaving them as nothing more than metal corpses.

Recently, the Necrons have begun to awaken in force, though theroys link several planets to past Necron awakenings. All that is known is that it is near impossible to trace Necrons buried under a planet's surface. It is also unknown what awakens them, but it is thought that being in the presense of the energies of Dark Gods may be linked to their awakenings.

Society and Culture

The Necron society is virtually unknown. Before their transformation by C'Tan, they were a highly technological society, and yet could not expand their life due to solar radiation from a nearby star. Now, they serve the Star God unquestioningly.

Necrons have a genocidal dislike for anything living, and assault planets abundant will any form of life. Their march is ceaseless, and they do not stop until every last cell on the planet is destroyed. When the Vhozon used their Soulice to destroy the Necrons, filling their empty souls with raw energy, the deathless went into slumber beneath different planets, and were thought to be sealed off forever. They still sleep to this day.

Necrons are resilient, and even when defeated and crushed, and still reform their bodies, even when missing necessary body parts. Necron Lords and Tomb Spyders can also resurrect destroyed Necrons, allowing them to return to battle even after the worst of defeats. After a defeat, most Necron corpses simply vanish. It is unknown if they are teleported back to a Monolith, or their alloy simply disintegrates.

Necrons do not speak, apart from garbled energy signatures from their bodies. Only Phariahs retain the ability to speak, and serve as the haunting voice of the Necrons. Necrons sleep inside massive fortresses, called Monoliths, which, when activated, can bring hell down on all around it. These Monoliths also serve to create new Necrons from different alloys.

Due to the Necrons being away from their own dimension, energy cores retain their connection to the C'Tan. If these energy cores are cut off, the Necrons will cease to exist.

Technology

Necrons come in different forms and variants, but all seem to run off the energy of death, known as Gauss. Their technology is a blend of the advanced workings of the Necrontyr, and the horrific workings of the C'tan. Most of them seem to use energy weapons, shooting Gauss at targets, which disintegrate life.

The Necron Metal is a mystery to most factions. It is resilient, and able to regenerate itself, but when the Necron is defeated, the alloy can simply vanish, as if it was never there. Very few samples of this metal has ever been found.

The Necrons in this universe also require a power core to continue existence. This is due to their distance from their Star Gods, who can sometimes manifest himself in an avatar, but overall is separate from this universe. Only the Necron Lords can summon their Gods, and as such are considered the real "Leaders" of the Necrons.

Basic Infantry

Necron Warriors

The most basic variant of the Necron is the Necron Warrior. These take standard humanoid shapes, and carry heavy Gauss Cannons. They are slow moving and zombielike, unable to speak past garbled electrical noise. The Necron Warriors are the most abundant, possibly next to the Scarabs, and the general symbol of the Necron Army. These Necrons can also rebuild themselves when defeated, even when completely decapitated.

Builder Scarabs

Builder Scarabs are the workers of the Necron warpath. These creatures surround Monoliths, building defenses and upgrades for it and the surrounding area. These Scarabs process raw materials, and gather other metal to process for the central Monolith. Scarabs are abundant, and formed from inside the Monolith itself, and can be formed even when the Monolith is in a near-dormant state.

Immortals

These variants of the Necrons are considered to be the original Necrontyr who were formed into Necrons by the Star God. They carry larger Gauss Weapons, and are far more resilient that normal Necrons. Like Necron Warriors, Immortals can regenerate themselves should they fall in battle.

Wraiths

Wraiths are the eyes of the Necron Legions, swift, serpent-like Necrons that float above battlefields and wield terrifying claws to destroy their prey. Wraiths also have the ability to phase in and out of existence for short periods of time, becoming immune to sight and sound. Their eyes can see through most stealth systems, giving the Necrons knowledge of spies and scouts beforehand.

Flayed Ones

Flayed Ones are Necron variants very similar to the normal Necron Warriors. However, these Necrons wield terrifying claws, and drape themselves in the bloody skins of the organics they kill. Flayed Ones can burrow underground, crawling from beneath their enemy for a surprise attack.

Pariahs

Pariahs are a new breed of Necrons, using those biotics with a specific gene in their system and forming their body into the Necron Metal. These beings retain speech and personality, but are unwavering in their devotion to the C'tan. They are immune to all forms of magic, and wield Gauss Halberds against their foes, striking with swift speed and keen Intelligence.

Mecha Pariahs

The newest breed of Necrons came in during the Metal Wars. The Necrons usually used the dead bodies of Metal Army soldiers to make new upgrades to their Monoliths, however, it has been recently known that Builder Scarabs can reprogram dead Metal Army forces and meld the Necron alloy into their bodies, making an abomination of Metal and Necron. Though not as resilient as the true Necrons, these are used as cannonfodder, and their instability can cause them to be used even as suicide bombers, overloading their power cored with Gauss to slaughter the C'tan's foes.

Attack Scarabs

A smaller version of the builder scarab, these tiny mechas come in swarms, outnumbering their foes and slicing them apart with their insect-like claws. They can cut through even the toughest metal alloy, but are weak in armor themselves. It is believed that these variants were the one that delivered the nano-plague that wiped out the Celestial Architects.

Necron Lord

Necron Lords are the primary leaders of the Necron forces. It contains amazing intelligence, and the ability to use the C'tan energies to do amazing feats, such as sending bolts of Gauss from the heavens, or freezing a force of units in time. It's most terrifying ability is to summon the Avatar of Death, the Nightbringer, or other forms of the C'tan.

The Nightbringer

Also known as the Avatar of Death, the Nightbringer is a Necron summon of their C'tan in the form of a black grim reaper, who wields a massive scythe to strike down his enemies. This being can only be summoned by the Necron Lord, and can only sustain itself for a short period of time.

The Deceiver

Another form of the C'tan, only written about in lore of the Vhozon, is the Deceiver. It is a being of many faces, that seems to drive beings insane by simply looking at it. This form of C'tan, as well as the other two, more unknown variants, the Void Dragon and the Outsider, have very little information on them.

Heavy Necrons and Vehicles

Tomb Spyder

The Tomb Spyder resembles a massive Builder Scarab, who roams the field of battle with two massive claws, used both to repair damaged Necrons, and slice through enemies. The Tomb Spyder can store dead Necrons and return them back to service within several minutes. When necessary, it can turn part of it's hull into hundreds of Attack Scarabs, which eat through enemy units.

Destroyer

This brand of Necron is mounted onto a hoverskiff, allowing it to float slightly above the field and get to it's target with ease. The Destroyer is mounted with a Gauss Cannon, much more powerful than the regular Necron Warrior variant, and specializes at taking out masses of infantry.

There is a second variant, the Heavy Destroyer, which sacrifices speed for firepower in obtaining a Heavy Gauss Cannon, allowing it to tear through enemy armor.

Lord Destroyer

The Lord Destroyer is similar to the Destroyer, except in the aspect that a Necron Lord is attached to a hoverskiff. these powerful beings use several C'tan spells, and have the ability to freeze enemy units in time. Also, the Lord Destroyer can possess anything made out of metal, allowing it to control tanks and mechas for periods of time.

Monolith

These massive pyramids are the mobile fortresses of the Necrons, spawning new Necrons as well as summoning others. These Monoliths carry four Gauss Flux Arcs, annihilating enemy infantry, as well as a massive Particle Whip, which leaves craters in it's wake.

Pylon

The Pylon is a mysterious work of Necron engineering, dwarfing even the Monoliths in size. They possess no weapons, however, they nullify all teleportation and magic around it, acting on a near-planetary scale. It is also said that these Pylons nullify the energies of Gods themselves, however, this information comes only from Vhozon lore. The Turn A Gundam can destroy them using the Moonlight Butterfly according to Celestial Architect Lore.
