Bandaloon began as a loose federation of several native Bandaloonian tribes around 900 C.E. Over several centuries, the federation became more united and developed. By the early 20th century, Bandaloon had a national government, contact with other nations, and was beginning to develop light industry. At the forefront of this industrial revolution was the Bandaloon mining guild.
Then, the Corporate Union took over the budding nation and began rapid development. For several decades, the CU invested tons of capital into the nation, developed the nation into an industrial powerhouse, and introduced many new cultures and peoples to Bandaloon.
However, this rapid development did not sit well with many of the more traditional native Bandaloonians. They saw the development of heavy industry and introduction of foreign ideals as an attack on their time honored traditions and culture. This idea gave birth to the Bandaloonian communism movement, which supported going back to a more tribal type economy, based on sharing and communist ideals, rather than the ultra-capitalism the CU had introduced. Over time, this movement evolved to favor much more extreme communism, and was supported by the many heavy industry workers.
The communism movement eventually rebelled against the CU, and gained much international support. However, the CU was too strong, and the revolution began to stagnate. The Bandaloon Mining Guild, now a mulit-national corporation, decided to aid its country of origin by buying Bandaloon from the CU.
The BMG did not interfere much with the operations of the nation. An interim government had been set up by the communism movement just before the buy-out, with rebel leader Ben Dover as president. Under the BMG, the government remained unchanged. The BMG nationalized all industry, creating a command economy, which pleased the communism movement.
However, after only a few years of BMG ownership, Dover made a secret deal with The BMG so he could gain full control of the country. The BMG would spin-off Bandaloon, and in return they would receive a discounted price on goods made in Bandaloon for several decades.
Thus, the communism movement had finally won full control of Bandaloon.

Since the BMG spin-off, Dover has consolidated power and made the government a fairly benevolent dictatorship. Civil rights have remained intact, and input from the citizens on the economy and government is welcomed.

Bandaloon has a planned economy. The economic planning committee coordinates all aspects of the economy. The bulk of the planning is done by EVAN (Economic Vascular Android Network), a massive system of computers and sensors. At all factories, there are EVAN sensors that determine how many units are being output and how fast. Consumer demands and opinions are collected through various polling methods. All this data is then collected by EVAN, and thousands of servers then process it to help determine supply and demand and what to do to keep the economy moving. The system was first introduced by the BMG, and was adapted for use by the communists. It has greatly helped plan the economy, and without it, the economy would be thrown into chaos.
The main sector of the economy is manufacturing, specifically manufactured consumer goods. However, the economy is very diverse, with the heavy manufacturing and agriculture sectors both well represented. The variety is due to the fact that Bandaloon is largely self-reliant. There is little to no foreign trade, so nearly everything must be produced from within bandaloon. While the nation has a wealth of resources that make this possible, many predict that many finite resources will begin to run low in the next few years, which may force Bandaloon to increase it's trade. Currently, Nearly all trade is conducted with the BMG.

Due to the fact that Bandaloon is one of the few, if not the only, communist nation currently in Liberalia, relations with most of the region have become strained. Before the BMG spin-off, Bandaloon had been a member of ACDC, but recently left the alliance for several reasons. Currently, the only formal foreign relations the nation has are with Prasser, and recently even this relation, which goes back to the beginning of the interim government, has become strained.
Bandaloon's communist stance has formed the basis of it's foreign policy. Bandaloon's top priority is spreading communism throughout liberalia and/or aiding the proletariat of the region in any way possible, where ever they might be. This policy was seen in action in the Wecoan civil war, in which Bandaloon supported the democrats, who were less capitalist than the opposing royalists.
