X On Fire Reviews/Pokemon & Yu-Gi-Oh
From Wuw Archive
I'm not a fan of anime, so these two shows can easily get on my nerves. However, I have to admit that I did buy into these to shows when I was younger. Since this is a double review, I'm going to go ahead and split it in two.
Pokemon
The first thing people will thing of is the irresistibly catchy theme song. From the minute I started this review, I had the song stuck in my head. It's not that bad of a song, luckily. Like most animes, Pokemon has some annoying little tidbits:
- The ridiculous sweatdrop.
- Meltyface (That's a term I just made up for when they get sad and black vertical lines appear on their face.)
- Simultaneous, painless, and extremely fast falling. (Usually used along with some form of sweatdrop or meltyface.)
- Everyone nods in extremely weird ways, sometimes making strange noises of agreement/aprooval.
- People making noises while eating. ("Mmm!", and such.)
- Eyes turning into hearts. (That actually seems like a pretty painful event. Eyes aren't supposed to suddenly change form like that.)
- And the list goes on and on.
And then there's Team Rocket. I think they do the same thing in EVERY EPISODE OF THE SERIES. First, they'll introduce themselves with that painfully annoying poem, then try to capture Pikachu in needlessly complicated ways. And, one way or another, they always end up blasting off into the sky, and always feel the need to annouce that they have done so at the top of their lungs.
I think you all know the basic plot of the show, so let's move on to Yu-Gi-Oh.
Yu-Gu-Oh
I've really only seen the 1st season of this show. From what I've seen, it just gets more and more confusing after that season.
The plot starts out relatively simple:
There's a kid who has a necklace that turns him into a pharoh, and has to save his grandfather by entering a holographic card game tournament on a deserted island. (Okay, it was kinda weird, but we didn't notice that when we watched the show.)
On top of that, the final duel was with what was essentialy a psycic. It's kinda sad when the creator of a card game has to cheat at his own game in order to win. I've only seen a couple of post-season 1 episodes, so I can't say much about those seasons.
The show has at least one spinoff, which I have seen less than a full episode of, and don't intend to see any more of.
I think we can all agree that the best thing to come out of this show is the Abridged Series, which is one of the funniest things around.
Well, let's wrap this up.
Final Ratings
I give Pokemon 2 Team Rocket members blasting off again out of 5, and I give Yu-Gi-Oh three "In Americas" out of 5.
See you next time!
