"In the dark ages, there was a terrible beast called 'Yggadrasil'. He was part dragon, part Tarasque and Part Coutal. He destroyed the land, burned crops, crushed castles, and started a war. Until one day, He was sealed by a powerful magician.

The Magician put the power of Yggadrasil into 13 books, and sent them all across the land. The monsters in the land began to form an army, and overpowered lands, looking for the books.

The King wanted this foolishness to stop, so he sent 4 warriors out to collect the books. They awoke on their first day of travel, in the forest."

Ok, I've come up with a new battle system. You roll a 1d20 and then depending on your weapon, you roll a 1d10, 1d8, 1d6, or 1d4 and subtract your weapon roll from your 1d20 roll. So let's say I roll a 15 in my 1d20, then I roll a 5 from my weapon roll. I'd do 10 damage. And also, you modify your weapon roll depending on your strength and other stats.
