Clean Queen Team exit the Worm Cup

Clean Queen Team are the first major seed to crash out of the Worm Cup after they lost their Second Round match against The Twits 2-0 after extra time. Clean Queen Team drew the sixth seeds in the Second Round after failing to top their group. 2008 Champions Cyborgs are also out after finishing second in their group. They lost in the Second Round to some people's favourites Dinosaurus. The only other major seeds to fall were Super Horace Team, who finished bottom of their group, and Flytippers, who were beaten in the Second Round by Spacemen after extra time.

Oriental Squad appoint Don Rochildo

Oriental Squad have broken their tradition of appointing Japanese managers by naming Alessandro Don Rochildo as their new manager. The Argentinian, 41, will succeed Tai Wan, who was sacked a month ago after a poor Worm Cup.

Oriental Squad sack Tai Wan

Oriental Squad have sacked their manager Tai Wan after four years in the job, due to a poor Worm Cup campaign. The club issued a statement to the public saying:

"Tai Wan has been relieved of his postition after a poor Worm Cup. Both parties agreed that a fresh start would benefit everyone. We thank Tai for his acheivements here, and we wish him well in the future".

The Tymes manager Alessandro Don Rochildo is the favourite to succeed Wan after The Tymes reached the Third Round in the tournamnt. Other managers, such as Cristian Villanav, manager of Super Horace Team, Medieval Warriors' Rufus Vanderhov and Name's Jaques Trempeau have also been linked with the job.

Finally, Ninja Fingers, captain of the Villains No.1, has been linked with a move to Oriental Squad, as a player manager. However, Ninja Fingers has silenced these reports, saying:

"The time is not yet right for me to end my playing career. I will not move into management until that ends. If after then I do receive and offer, I will seriously consider it.".

Worm Cup summary

This Worm Cup was full of the expected, and the unexpected. The atmosphere has been great. There were many suprises, Oriental Squad and Name failed to top their groups, which were won by Medieval Warriors and Super Horace Team respectively. The Tymes shocked Other Villains in a Play-Off, and reached the Third Round, beating seeded Spongebob Team in the Second Round, before losing to Super Joel Team. Holders Cyborgs were eliminated in the Third Round by Clean Queen Team, who experienced a brilliant return to form. There were epic matches in each round, the best of them being Nature Strike v Utensils in the Third Round. Masters reached the Quarter-Finals for the first time since 1999. The final was a great showpiece of supsense and attacking play.

However, some of the results were slightly predicatble. Only three unseeded teams made it to the Third Round. The Villains and Snoic Team were always the favourites, and justified that tag. But on the whole, the Worm Cup has been a good one.

Verdict: 8/10

Villains Win Worm Cup Again

Highly fancied The Villains No.1 have won the Worm Cup for the fifth time, and the first on home soil. The final was played in Berlin, against old rivals Sonic Team. When interviewed by a reporter, Vice-Captain Drachior had this to say:

"What a night! We have done it again! I have heard so many times about how we are under par, but now we win again, so I hope that is now forgotten".

The Villains' winger Zombie, who didn't play in any previous Worm Cup wins for the Villains, said this:

"I cannot believe the atmosphere! I have heard som many tales from my team-mates about winning this trophy. Now I will have my own tale to tell! Full credit to the guys, they have been great!"

Shadow Announces Retirement Date

Sonic Team veteran Shadow has recently announced when he will retire from International Worms. He issued this statement to the public:

"I've finally decided to just get on with Sonic Team and finish my Brazilian career. I can't travel as much as I used to and my retirement from Worms may come soon after. For now, I will just play for Sonic Team and finish my career after a while. I will retire from International Worming when Sonic Team do very well. I wish to leave on a high."

It is expected that he will remain in worming for a few more years and then retire. He has also mentioned working as a Manager in the future. If he becomes a Manager, his team will know that they have a brilliant player on their side.
