Background
Nicky is the third of three daughters. She studied medicine and worked for a time as a trauma surgeon at a hospital in Auckland, New Zealand. After her lover (and boss) cheated on her, she apparently got revenge by gluing his underpants to him while he slept, and quit to take a position at a medical clinic in the fictional small town of Bassett, about two hours north of Auckland.
There, she dated a social worker named Cliff, and had an on/off relationship with married vinter Keiran Masefield, who eventually divorced his wife, Amanda and proposed to Nicky. She moved in with him, but moved out and called off the engagement when he was arrested for a murder committed in the late 1980s. He was eventually acquitted, in the series finale, but whether they got back together in unknown; by the time he was acquitted, she'd moved on to have a relationship with her best friend, Alistair Kingsley, who had been in love with her for the entire series.
She's been pulled in from before Keiran was acquitted, when she was dating Alistair.
