Background
Katrael was born to Dantana ni Uiletor and Luke Skywalker, though he did not become aware of her existence until she was seventeen, and he was already married to Mara Jade. Her mother was captured by the Yuuzhn Vong and presumed dead. Katrael spent time with her new-found family and became close to her cousin, Jaina.
Eventually, her mother was rescued, which caused added problems when Dantana revealed to Luke that they had been handfasted eighteen years before, and his marriage to Mara was invalid. Further complicating matters, it was revealed that Mara Jade's birth name was Mharaine Gharaida ni Uiletor, making her Dantana's elder twin. These revelations and her own struggle with her use of the Dark Side to defend villagers on her home planet during the Yuuzhan Vong attacks haunted Katrael, and she became estranged from her mother.
Katrael became romantically involved with Jagged Fel, but their relationship ended when he abruptly left for Chiss space . After the defeat of the Yuuzhan Vong, she spent several years in the Outer Rim, frequently not heard from for months.
