This is probably a larger discussion than just this page, and the answer may even exist somewhere else on the wiki, but I have not been able to find it.  How are diacritics to be handled?  Especially, how should they be dealt with in page names?.  I have run into this with the Samantpaasaadikaa link on this page. :For easy of searcheability, I would prefer the pagenames to have no diacriticals, and no long aa's. Just the most common and lazy way to write it down. This way the search-box can easily find it, and it will also show up on google-searches. In the page itself you can use pali marks if you feel like it. I managed to provide a list of them under the edit-box. So click edit and they will appear. then you can use copy and paste. Greetings, [[User_Talk:Admin|DJti]] 10:00, 21 July 2006 (EDT)

I wasn't sure if this much detail was appropriate on this page.  I do think it is valuable information, so I would like to see it on the wiki.  Perhaps if this page got too long it could be moved to a page dedicated to the PTS romanized Pali.  Because the PTS English and Pali editions are not parallel, having this information can be quite handy. ::Yes, of course.  I always confuse the notion of roman characters with English language.  So I will try to create a [[Pali Books on Vinaya]] page and move this.  I realize that making lists of books is perhaps not so important, but it does seem to be a good place to start.  I appreciate what you have done so far with the English language books. ::There is at least one book that we have here in our library.  And it is only Buddhaghosa's introduction to the Samantapasadika (edited 10:12, 22 July 2006 (EDT)).  I just started reading it and the language is quite beautiful.  I tend to have a very neutral position on the whole commentary thing.  The writing, though, is quite touching so far.  From the introduction (to the introduction...) it seems that Buddhaghosa is trying to establish the fact that he is going to be commenting on the true Vinaya.  Quite inspiring.

Diacritics

This is probably a larger discussion than just this page, and the answer may even exist somewhere else on the wiki, but I have not been able to find it. How are diacritics to be handled? Especially, how should they be dealt with in page names?. I have run into this with the Samantpaasaadikaa link on this page. BKh 09:36, 21 July 2006 (EDT)

For easy of searcheability, I would prefer the pagenames to have no diacriticals, and no long aa's. Just the most common and lazy way to write it down. This way the search-box can easily find it, and it will also show up on google-searches. In the page itself you can use pali marks if you feel like it. I managed to provide a list of them under the edit-box. So click edit and they will appear. then you can use copy and paste. Greetings, DJti 10:00, 21 July 2006 (EDT)

Detail on Pali language editions

I wasn't sure if this much detail was appropriate on this page. I do think it is valuable information, so I would like to see it on the wiki. Perhaps if this page got too long it could be moved to a page dedicated to the PTS romanized Pali. Because the PTS English and Pali editions are not parallel, having this information can be quite handy. BKh 09:36, 21 July 2006 (EDT)

The pali language editions can be but on their own page, the pali and english pages can be grouped together in the category:publications. Also we can make a page Publications which links to the pali and english book pages. If there were any books in dutch I could make a seperate page for dutch books. There is one book in dutch actually...Greetings, DJti 10:00, 21 July 2006 (EDT)

Yes, of course. I always confuse the notion of roman characters with English language. So I will try to create a Pali Books on Vinaya page and move this. I realize that making lists of books is perhaps not so important, but it does seem to be a good place to start. I appreciate what you have done so far with the English language books. commentaries

Do you want to list commentaries published by PTS on this page.? BKh 09:36, 21 July 2006 (EDT)

Yes, if they are in english. Anything can go here I think. I was actually wondering if the commentaries were ever translatedGreetings, DJti 10:00, 21 July 2006 (EDT)
There is at least one book that we have here in our library.
I also believe that there is very active work being done by PTS to translate the entire K/commentary. BKh 18:51, 21 July 2006 (EDT)
