[edit] Contest

The contest begins with several people playing an Xbox 360. The first one to successfully get their system to display the Red Ring Of Death wins.

If a player would like to play online, then Microsoft will give the player a 15 day trial to XBox Live.

[edit] 2007

The first Red Ring of Death-o-Rama was on July 14, 2007 in Los Angeles. The winner was American, John Doe with a time of 10 hours, 43 minutes. Doe won $27 and several smaller prizes. At the time, Doe was playing Gears of War online.

[edit] Controversy

This contest resulted in Doe with a non working Xbox 360. Doe was not happy and ended up filing a complaint with Microsoft. Microsoft ended up having to repair Doe's console for free. This resulted in Microsoft having to change the prize for 2008.

[edit] 2008

The 2008 contest took place in Phoenix, Arizona. The event was called, "Microsoft's XBox 360 Red Ring of Death-o-Rama Presented by Mountain Dew AMP Energy" and was held July 16, 2008. The contenst drew in 21 competitors and over 100 spectators. The winner was Mike Stevens from Arlen Texas. Stevens won a free repair job on the broken Xbox and $35 in cash. Last year's winner, John Doe placed third.

[edit] Sponsorship

The original title for the 2008 event was, Red Ring of Death-o-Rama Presented by Mountain Dew Game Fuel. However, the name was changed to Microsoft's Xbox 360 Red Ring of Death-o-Rama Presented by Mountain Dew Game Fuel in late 2007. Ten days before the event, Pepsi realized that they were no longer making Mountain Dew Game Fuel and found no need to advertise a product that was no longer available. The name was changed five days before the event, to Microsoft's Xbox 360 Red Ring of Death-o-Rama Presented by Mountain Dew AMP Energy.
