History

Growing up in large family as the middle child of all boys, Christian was often overlooked as a child. He wasn't a "problem" child, like his older brothers, and therefore didn't receive as much attention as he would have had he acted out like them. His younger brothers also received more attention, being coddled and babied.

Originally from a small, almost nothing town somewhere in South Carolina, at fifteen Chris robbed a bank (used his powers to unlock the vault and walk out with the money late one night), hitchhiked to New York, and has been living on his own for the past year or so. He makes money dealing drugs and with minor theft (nothing so large scale as the bank), only using his powers to get himself by. He's attending high school again, holding down a part time job at a supermarket when he's not out dealing.

He hasn't contacted his family since running away, and never really plans to, since he doesn't think they really notice he's left, continuing to live his rather screwed up life of petty crimes.

Personality

He's never actually done any of the drugs he sells, but all the same looks a little strung out, a testament more towards how busy he is than anything else. He has a small nervous habit of carrying a small combination locker-type lock on his backpack, and plays with that when he's bored, opening and closing the latch without actually turning the combination. Aside from that, he only takes advantage of his powers when he thinks it necessary (which is probably a little more often than not, but a part time job and the drugs can only make someone so much), which leaves him hovering somewhere around the poverty line. He's never questioned his powers, and has never told anyone about them, including his parents. He's often thought of as "creepy" or "weird," because he has the nasty habit of disappearing into supposedly locked rooms, and reappearing at any time when he doesn't want to be around others. He'll eventually hear about the "fate of the world" and "destiny" via the journals.

Also, being on the "poor" side, he usually depends upon whatever libraries he can find for internet access.

Powers

Able to "open" any kind of lock. Small ones, like everyday front doors and combination locks, he can look at and just think of opening it, and it will do as he wants. Larger ones, like safes and cars, require more concentration and actual contact, but can be done. Likewise, he can also lock things that weren't previously locked. This takes less concentration and is easier than actually opening them.

An unexpected side of this power is being able to "unlock" passwords, be it a website or an ATM machine.

20 Random Facts

1. He’d never really decided to go to New York when he ran away, just merely bought himself a bus ticket as far as he could afford and still feed himself for awhile and didn’t think about his next location until he’d reached the stop. He didn’t reach that destination though, and ended up stuck at a bus stop at the border of Virginia and Delaware. He hitch hiked the rest of the way, and when he reached the city and he realised he could live there without ever being noticed, he stayed.

2. His best friends growing up were his older brothers and their closest neighbour, a girl his brother’s age named Heather. She died before he ran away.

3. His older brothers are identical twins, and are named Joseph and Jacob. The brother born after him is Luke, and the youngest of their family is Darwin. His father chose the last one.

4. Christian discovered his power on accident, when as a joke Jacob (he’d taken on the job of the stereotypical “evil twin” at a young age) locked him in a trunk in the attic. To this day Jacob believes that the lock was just old and weak. Christian took every chance he got after that to lock him in the bathroom from the outside as he grew older.

5. Sometimes he takes out the drugs that he’s supposed to be dealing, lays them on his coffee table, and just stares at them, trying to imagine what taking them would be like. In the end, he always puts them away like he never touched them at all. He rather likes being clean and the feeling it gives him over other people when they’re fucked up.

6. Despite all the religious influences in his family and from his mother, the only one who really remained devout in their family was Darwin. Christian falls back on it out of convenience.

7. The one argument that always comes up between him and Brian is the drug dealing, though the other boy drops it a lot faster than he did when he first found out. Christian’s right when he says it gets more money than working a part-time job at the supermarket down the street from his apartment.

8. He isn’t sure if anyone else in his family can do what he can, or if they can do anything else, but likes the irony that his last name is Keyes and that he can unlock things.

9. The idea to rob a bank came to him in the middle of a date with Heather’s cousin (he can't remember her name now). They were standing outside a local diner, watching an armored car reload an ATM Machine. The next morning, he was halfway through Virginia.

10. He considers this the best thing he’s ever done with his life.

11. He carries a gun, even though he’s almost afraid he’s going to shoot himself in the foot (or someplace worse) someday. This might be part of the problem why he’s stressed out all the time.

12. He didn’t get the gun in New York, though. He stole it from his father.

13. And he has killed someone with it.

14. Christian has something of a guilty conscience, which probably is the fault of his mother. The only times she ever paid attention to him were when he did, or didn’t, do something, though as he got older this happened less and less until she practically forgot she had a middle son.

15. Looking back on his life, he really doesn’t care if anyone lives or dies at all.

16. The option of being able to destroy things with his best friend, though, is too good to pass up.

17. He doesn’t think he’s gay, but he doesn’t know if he’s straight either. Either way, it isn’t very important to anyone but him. And maybe Brian.

18. He’ll return the computer he stole sometime around New Years. He just isn’t sure how yet.

19. He hopes he never falls in love.

20. Watching Heather die was bad enough.

21. He enjoys techno/rave/trance/any kind of music that can be DDRed to.
