Northern Isles
From '''UTWiki''', the [[The Unknown Turaga Saga|Unknown Turaga]] Wiki.
The Northern Continent is the land on which the events of The Unknown Turaga Saga occur. It is a land in the Matoran Universe that is situated far to the north of Metru Nui, so far north that few in the remainder of the universe are aware of its existence. The term Northern Continent also refers to the numerous islands, such as Dracos Nui, surrounding it; in effect, the term generally applies to the entire dome.

History
The Northern Continent came into existence at approximately the same time as most other lands in the universe. Some time afterwards, Matoran colonised its western shores, founding the iconic city known as Port Spirit. The Matoran quickly spread around the continent and onto the islands surrounding it.
Unlike most of the universe, the Northern Continent is relatively peaceful, having suffered only a small number of disasters compared to other lands. Indeed, the biggest known conflict in the dome thus far is that of Dracos Nui, and Turaga Dlakii's fights against the Lord of the Shadow Dragons; this conflict is very recent, having only just ended.
Geography
Most of the Northern Continent dome is water. About 60% of the surface is covered in a protodermis sea. Another 30% is the Continent itself, while the remaining 10% consists of the many islands ringing the continent. A large majority of the landmasses is covered with mountains; Port Spirit, for instance, is bordered by mountains on three sides.
The dome itself actually contains three exit passages. One, obscured by the Daxian Archipelago, eventually leads to Daxia (though only one being in the entire universe knows that); the second leads to Metru Nui; this one, however, was sealed in an earthquake millennia ago. The third, an obscure exit characterised as a raging river on a 45-degree angle, leads to the surface lands, and is relatively close to Mata Nui. The Pirate Captain discovered this path some decades ago, and put it to good use transporting Turaga Dlakii's army to Mata Nui.
It appears that the Northern Continent's obscurity has resulted in many anomalies in Matoran, some which people from other domes would considered unnatural. The most obvious of these is the existence of female Ta-Matoran and Le-Matoran, this being impossible in the rest of the world. Given this situation, it is likely that male (and female) counterparts exist for each element. Similarly, there have been many instances where Matoran of one element transform into Toa of another, the best example of this being Dlakii himself. No-one is entirely sure how this happens, other than the fact that it only happens in unusual circumstances, such as those of Lai.
Inhabitants
Matoran
The dominant species in the dome, inhabiting almost every island in the dome. Matoran of all kinds reside in this dome, and are watched over by the dome's ruling body, the Turaga High Council.
Dragon Matoran
These are a unique subspecies of Matoran who are capable of transforming into dragons in order to fight. Until the Great Cataclysm, all Dragon Matoran resided on Dracos Nui. However, the invasion of the Shadow Dragons resulted in the extinction of the species. Proto D is, to this date, the only Dragon Matoran in existence, and he has not resided on Dracos Nui for over one thousand years.
Rahi
Unsurprisingly, a colourful variety of Rahi living in the region. The most populous is arguably the Gukko bird, with a large number bred in defence camps across the continent.
Shadow Dragons
After their invasion of Dracos Nui, the Shadow Dragons moved in permanently, claiming the island as their own. As of late, there are now none left, as Dlakii's forces have successfully wiped out the species, as well as their leader.

Trivia
- The Northern Continent is not the same Northern Continent in the official BIONICLE story. This one is actually the northernmost landmass in the Matoran Universe; however, its isolation and hidden status led the Matoran of the rest of the universe to believe that no such land existed and that the name was not used.
- The Northern Continent Dome is the single largest dome in the entire universe, encompassing countless lands stretching to the north which have not been discovered yet.
- There is a colony of Av-Matoran somewhere in the dome. However, Dlakii was not one of them.
- Given its isolation from the rest of the universe, the Makuta are almost unheard of to the residents of the Northern Continent. As a result, shadow is rarely considered to be an evil element, averting any suspicion which could have been cast on Lai.
