Benin, though Democratic, is a largely poor African country struggling with major health and poverty issues. Forced and child labor are far too common still. Benin has been helped by generous donor funding and by a shared hydroelectric project with Togo cutting it's energy dependence, but overall the outlook remains bleak.

Boni was the president of Benin when USGovSim's current reset began on January 1, 2007. His term is mentioned as ending in 2016. He was probably as president by Olympe Fassinou.
Olympe Fassinou
Fassinou was mentioned as Benin's president in 2021, suggesting he was elected in either 2016 or 2021. He is referred to as a firm supporter of greater regional intergration.
