General Janet EA Hicks is the current AFRICOM commander and the first, and currently only, female four star general in the United States military. She has held position since 2018. There was some controversy over her appointment, with some claiming that her promotion was a political rather than merit based one.
Prior to AFRICOM, she had served as Commander of Defense Intelligence and Army Signal Corps Commander before that.
