- At MIT, a major breakthrough in artificial intelligence research has created Galatea, an apparent AI. Reaction has been strongly divided, and a riot ensured at MIT.
- American led United Nations forces have intervened in Haiti, attempting to restore order to that troubled island.
- In Harare, Zimbabwe, several Blackwater mercenaries were rescued from the custody of the International Criminal Court (to whom the Zimbabwean government had turned them over, following a foiled coup-d'etat). The U.S. embassy there is now ablaze.
