Theodore "Teddy" Williams, Jr. (born January 16, 1975), is the current Governor of Heartland. Previously, he served as Senator of Illinois for five years, and as a United States Congressman for a year. He was appointed Senator by Elizabeth Wellbourne in 2013, before winning election to a full term in a landslide in 2014. He ran for Governor against Edgard Portela in 2018, and he won by a comfortable margin.

Biography

Teddy Williams was born in Philadelphia in 1975 as the first son of Teddy Williams, Sr. He applied and was accepted to Northwestern University. He studied political science, and graduated from Northwestern in 1997. He then applied and was admitted to Northwestern Law School, which he graduated cum laude in 2001.

After graduating from Northwestern Law School, Williams turned down many lucrative offers at big firms in order to take a job working as an Assistant U.S. Attorney for the Northern District of Illinois. He remained close to the community during this time, and prosecuted many cases against high-profile criminals in Illinois including a number of drug dealers, sex traffickers, organized criminals, and white collar criminals.

Personal Life

In 2000, Williams married Mary Williams, a programmer working in a Chicago firm. He has two children, a boy born in 2001, Mark Williams, and a girl born in 2002, Elizabeth Williams.

Political Career

Williams continued working as an Assistant United States Attorney until 2012, when he decided to seek state office. He ran and won a race to become Representative for the 1st district in Illinois.

He was appointed Senator of Illinois by Governor Elizabeth Wellbourne. He subsequently won election to a full term in a landslide in 2014, and he has served in the United States Senate since then.

When the Democrats took the majority in 2014, Senator Williams was appointed Chairman of the Judiciary Committee. In this position, Williams pushed through a plethora of progressive legislation while being attacked by the Republicans and applauded by the Democrats.
