2014 Gubernatorial Election

Stewart won a controversial and tight victory in the Democratic primary against New York Senator Roland Scott and Congresswoman Caroline Westman when he waged a negative campaign against Scott late into the race. It paid off for Stewart, who won the nomination and cruised to victory in the general election with 63% of the vote, but caused some tension within the party.
