Early Life

Graham Cummings was born to then teacher and future Democratic BSC gubernatorial candidate David Hanover Cummings and Tessie Milborough Cummings in 1986. The oldest of three, Graham was followed three years later by Lucas and, in another year after that, by Jane in 1990. Graham's parents raised him in Topeka, and Graham never found a new home until he left Topeka for Portland, Oregon and Reed College. While at Reed, Graham became active in the campus Democrats and met Regina Wellesley of Fairfax, Virginia. They got married in their Senior years at Reed. Graham graduated Reed in 2008 with a degree in Linguistics.

Fluent in Spanish, Graham accepted a career opportunity as a legal translator in Salt Lake City, Utah. Soon after arriving in Salt Lake, Graham and Regina welcomed twin sons, Gabriel and Edward. Graham, known for his diplomatic nature and fluency, became an integral part of the legal society in Salt Lake. In February 2010, Regina gave birth to their third son, David Jr.

Eight months later, Regina was shot in a gang shooting while returning home from her employment. After investigation, police discovered that a few hispanic gang members shot hre in relation to Graham's instrumental work in convicting a high-level figure. After the incident, Graham retired from his work to begin teaching high school Spanish in East High School. Graham served as a teacher, active in the local PTA organisation, until 2012 when he ran and was elected to the Big Sky Legislature for the sixth district of Utah.

Early Political Career

Graham was elected to the Lower House of the Regional Legislature in 2014 for the Sixth District of Utah. He avidly worked within the party caucus to help organise Democratic efforts. And as the Minority Leader, he became the expected Democratic candidate for Lieutenant Governor. Even though his campaign partner, Damien Austin, who ran for Governor, wasn't elected, Graham was paired with former Governor Daniel Mallory to work for four years on an agenda that worked for both parties. Graham was successful in passing certain key Acts. After serving as Lieutenant Governor, Graham left politics for a few years.

Return to Politics

After two years of retirement, Graham ran for election in the Sixth District of Utah, his home district, and was elected handily. After being elected back into the Lower House, Graham was re-selected by the Democratic caucus to be the new Minority Leader. He continues to serve in that position today.
