Personal Life

Family

Married his love Josephine Bradshaw (born Walker) on the 4th of July 1990, they have three children together Nathanael Nikola Bradshaw, Jonathan Sergey Bradshaw and Ryan Aleksey Bradshaw. Honoring Victor’s Russian heritage, they decided to give the children American names but Russian middle names.

Victor has a fourth child, a daughter named Linda Freeman (born Turner-Bradshaw), together with Alison Turner. Victor and Allison got together in high school when they were both 17. An unexpected pregnancy led to a child. They never married, but separated two years later. Linda is now living with her husband in Europe and has very little contact with her father.

Family History

On his mother’s side his Grandmother 88 year old Svetlana Solovyov (born 1920) and her sister, 101 year old Ludmila Kerimov (born 1908) still lives, as well as uncle Sasha Nikolaevich (born 1950). His mother Natalya Nikolaevna Solovyov died of cancer in 2005. Svetlana, Natalya, Sasha, Ludmila fled from the USSR to the USA in 1958.

His grandfather on the mother’s side Nikola Solovyov (born 1911) and his uncle Vladimir Nikolaevich Solovyov (1943) disappeared at the time when the other members of the family fled. According to friends and contacts, they were captured and sent to labor camp, and supposedly died of unknown causes in 1960. Vladimir was then 17 years old.

Victor’s mother Natalya met her love Adrian Bradshaw after being 2 years in America. They married a few years later in 1963 and the same year they got their one and only child Victor Nikolai Bradshaw.

On his father’s side, only Adrian Bradshaw and his brother uncle Adam Bradshaw (b 1938) lives. Their parents (Victor’s grandparents) Morgan Bradshaw (1905-1980) and Marie Louise Bradshaw (1907-1989) has passed away, as have Morgan’s brother Leo Bradshaw (1907-1985).

Early life and education

Throughout early education Victor showed to be a bright kid. He entered kindergarten when he was 6 years old and 1st grade when 7. Throughout elementary school Victor studied in a public school near their home in suburban Rochester.

For 9th to 12th grade Victor studied at Brighton High School (Rochester, New York). Brighton High School is a renowned public high school, often located at the top of national rankings. Notably the school was one of the first in the state to offer 5 courses in the Russian language, and was also one of the first to sample the AP Russian pilot exam.

Victor was into sports doing some boxing and swimming, though never excelling on any particular event. He was like children are most. Though always getting high grades. He often participated in extracurricular activates like school papers and school groups.

Early on he proved sign of a social pathos for the civil rights movements. During his teenage years Victor was a member of an ACLU youth branch as well as a number of local community organizations. For some years he was also a member of Amnesty International.

When applying to college Victor was accepted to Yale University, Connecticut from which he graduated with a Master's degree in business administration after four years of studies.

Work Life

After graduating Victor moved to Brooklyn, New York City where he managed to get a pretty well paid administrative job as Business Manager for General Electric at no place other than its New York headquarters, located at 30 Rockefeller Plaza in Rockefeller Center. Victor soon found himself being credited and commended for his work, receiving more than one promotion during the following years.

After seven years of hard work for the company Victor Bradshaw was named Vice Chief Administrative Officer of General Electric in 1992. Victor was a both successful and popular officer if you ask the coworkers and the executive board. He stayed as Vice CAO for three years until he resigned in 1995 in order to do a leap and change of career. After getting a formal proposal from the NYC Mayor Rudolph Giuliani, he accepted the offer of becoming President of the New York City Economic Development Corporation. At this point Victor had made a personal aquentice with Mayor Giuliani in formal business-politics meetings, of which made the offer possible – despite his already then growing ties with the Democratic Party.

His work as President of the NYCEDC increased the interaction and networking with the political world. He soon reconnected with his youth passion for the civil and human rights movements – of which he never broke ties with or stopped, being supportive of, but perhaps kept a distanced relationship too. In 1997 he became a full member of the Democratic Party, marking a formative moment when politics become his primary focus instead of business and administration. Victor realized that in order to change the world you have to be willing to work hard yourself for what you believe in – and not leave it up to someone else to do it for you or come up with and advocate your ideas for you.

Political Career

New York State Politics

In 1998 he finished up his work as NYCEDEC President to run for his first public office – running for Senator of the New York Senate in Albany for the Democratic Party. After a though campaign he ended up in the winning side against his Republican opponent with 54% of votes against 43% for his opponent.

He soon made headway into the more important circles of the capitol halls. After winning reelection in 2000 he gained the confidence of the Democratic Caucus securing the Senate Majority Whip position.

US House Representative

In 2001 9/11 marked a change in many regards. For Victor it was not only a personal, emotional and turbulent time – it also marked a changed in a political way. It gave him increased ambitions in doing more for the City, Region, Superregion and Country – how could he do more for his fellow men? Wanting to give what he could and fight for his fellow neighbors and citizens not just in the Regional Senate – but in the United States as a whole. United States Congress became the goal for Bradshaw running for United State House Representative of New York's 11th congressional district.

Participating in the 2002 midterm Congressional elections, Victor first won a Democratic Primary and then scored a landslide victory against his republican opponent in the general election. Being a now well respected and pretty prominent citizen of New York, his race claimed media attention and recognition even outside the state.

In the House of Representatives, Victor Bradshaw has now during the past years risen up to become one of the key members of the Democratic House Caucus. Wining reelection twice both 2004, 2006 and 2008, many pundits and opinions makers as well claims he’s a rising star that could score some new steps up the ladder in the near future.

2010 Northeast Gubernatorial Election

In 2010 Victor Bradshaw announced he sought the office of Northeast Governor. In the Democratic Primary he faced Valerie Francis of New York, and Frank Napier of Massachusetts.

Bradshaw run a campaign focusing on 6 prioritized broad areas Leading through values, ensuring our security, Building a stronger society, Building a stronger economy, Investing for our future, and Reaching equality – defending our rights.

Public polling’s claimed him barely as the frontrunner with 26% supporters vs. Francis 24%, Napier 25%, and undecided 25%.. Pundits claimed “there's no question that Bradshaw has a more comprehensive and detailed platform, which gives him an overall bump, but this is still anyone's race”. After a though race with high quality campaigning. Bradshaw ended up finish second in the primary, only 0.4% behind winning candidate Valerie Francis of New York. Overall results: Bradshaw 34.32%, Francis 34.72%, Napier 30.96%.

According to professional political analysis’s one strategy that might or might not have affected the outcome was Bradshaw’s strategy at wining New York, while he looked into cutting Napier's lead in Massachusetts (a smart decision given it's large size in relation to other New England states, and a strategy that would have been more effective had Napier tried to go after New York at all).

Speaking of the specific message many agree that out of the three, Bradshaw had the deepest platform, offering many policy promises as well as explaining all his plans for when he was actually elected. Bradshaw was able to use that to his advantage (and Francis to a somewhat lesser extent), pointing out at least twice that there wasn't much of a plan for Napier, especially in the latter's platform regarding economic development (the "five words" approach).

The result was majorly effected by two perhaps three mistakes from Bradshaw’s side. Bradshaw had the message, but suffered from incredibly long soundbytes; as was mentioned, Bradshaw chose Massachusetts as his "state of interest," perhaps the only state in the region where he would have faced a significant uphill struggle; and finally, Bradshaw Focused to much on New York City seven out of eight of Bradshaw's New York events were in New York City. yes, new York is 58% of the region's voting population, and NYC makes up- easily- half the state. But 25-27% of the region's voters will not guarantee you the election.
