Kara Jane Price (born Sep. 28, 1976) is a United States Congresswoman representing New Jersey's 12th congressional district since the 2018 midterm elections. She previously served as Dean of the Woodrow Wilson School of Public and International Affairs at Princeton University, her alma mater.

Early Life and College

Kara Price was born on September 28, 1975 in East Hampton, New York to Richard and Marybeth Price. She has two brothers, Everet and Prescott Pierce, both of whom are older than her. Her father Richard worked as lawyer and later served as in the Suffolk County Legislature and as Suffolk County Executive. Her mother Marybeth, who was born in England, worked as a teacher. Kara was never married but has a four year old daughter, Cheryl.

Upon graduation from High School, Kara enrolled at Princeton University's Woodrow Wilson School of Public and International Affiars where she received a B.A. in public and international affairs in 1997. Kara then enrolled at Columbia University to pursue her graduate studies. In 1999 she received her Master of International Affairs and in 2002 she received her PhD in Sustainable Development, also from Columbia University.

The same year she received her Phd, Kara took a job with the United Nations Development Fund for Women (UNIFEM) where she worked as Program Coordinator from 2002 until 2006. From 2006 to 2008 she worked as external consultant working in regards to U.N. Gender and Climate Change Funds. In 2008 she took a job as Policy Specialist in the field of Human Rights and Poverty Reduction with the United Nations Development Program (UNDP). She remained in this position for three years before in 2011 taking a position teaching Public and International Affairs with a special focus on International Development and gender studies at her Alma Mater at Princeton's Woodrow Wilson School of Public and International Affairs. The following year she joined the Brookings Institution as Associate Director for the institution's Early Child Development Initiative. In 2014 Kara became Dean of the Woodrow Wilson School of Public and International Affairs at Princeton University, a position she held until 2018 when she successfully campaigned to represent New Jersey's twelfth district in the House of Representatives.
