Biography

Congressman Daniels - House FRAS Committee, 2011

Harry Daniels was born in 1969 to Gary and Bethany Daniels in Glendale Colorado. Harry was a well-behaved child and an excellent student growing up. He graduated fourth in his class in high school and had several scholarships to some very prestigious schools around the country. He chose, however, to attend his father's alma mater which was Colorado University.

He had always wanted to be a teacher, so while at CU he pursued a degree in Elementary Education. He maintained a 4.0 GPA and received his degree with no problem. He left college in search of a job but was unable to find one. No schools seemed to be hiring so Harry decided to enlist in the United States Army.

He chose to go into the infantry, with a desire to serve in combat like his grandfather had in World War II and Korea. He excelled during his basic training and was offered a chance to attend the prestigious US Army Ranger School. He passed Ranger School and was assigned to the 75th Ranger Regiment's 3rd Battalion. He was not in long before his unit was deployed as part of Operation Gothic Serpent in Somalia. Harry enjoyed his time in the Rangers and received several awards during his time served. During his time in the Army he met Kimberly Bradley and the couple would eventually get married. The couple has since had two children, Henry and Rayne.

Harry considered making the Army a career but instead opted to leave the Army in 1995 to once again seek a job in education. He was successful this time around and was hired by a school in his hometown of Glendale, Colorado. Unfortunately, he soon discovered that the quiet lifestyle of teaching no longer met his desires and began searching for a new career in 1998.

A former buddy from the Army helped Daniels get a job as a Colorado State Patrolman and it soon became apparent that this was his true calling. He performed his State Patrolman duties with extreme efficiency and determination. He often went above and beyond the call of duty in enforcing the law which he was rewarded with promotions, awards and praise from his superiors. It was during this time that he became interested in the political scene. His father had been a politician for years, serving on the State Senate, and Harry decided to follow in his footsteps.

In 2006, Harry won an election for an open seat on the Colorado State Senate. He served with pride in this position until 2010 when he was approached by the Democratic Party to run for Congress to represent Colorado's 1st District. In a tough fight against a Republican State Treasurer, Daniels won with 54% of the vote.

Harry Daniels can be described as a moderate Democrat. He is known for his liking of bipartisanship and working hard for his constituents. He currently serves as an Assistant to the House Democratic Whip and is a proud member of the House Foreign Relations and Armed Services Committee. He resides, when not in session, at a home in Glendale, Colorado with his wife, two children and wide variety of family pets.
