After graduating, he returned to Boise and became a successful local businessman. In 2000, he was elected to the Boise City Council, and in 2004, Morrison was elected Mayor of Boise, a position he held until 2011.

Lieutenant Governor of the Northwest

In 2010, Morrison was tabbed as Northwest Republican Gubernatorial candidate William Reynard's running mate. Reynard and Morrison ran a very tough race. Reynard was defeated on Election Day by Democrat Zachary Flint. However, in a split ticket victory, Morrison was elected lieutenant governor.

Morrison's term as lieutenant governor began in January of 2011.

Governor of the Northwest

Zachary Flint left the Governor's position in early 2012. Lieutenant Governor Morrison ascended to the position. Morrison's ascension to the Governorship coincided with a Senate vacancy in Cascadia. Governor Morrison's Republican appointee gave the U.S. Senate back to the Republicans.
