Colt Walker Cordell, 2011.

Colt Walker Cordell was born outside of Lubbock, Texas on New Year's Day in 1965. His parents were cotton farmers on a large farm outside the city limits. They were rather poor and worked hard to feed Colt and his seven siblings. In 1975, the owner of the cotton farm died, and in a surprising turn of events, left the farm in the hands of Colt's parents.

This turned the family's fortune around and the Cordells became a wealthy and well-known family in the Lubbock area. They were some of the most prominent African Americans in west Texas at the time. Colt and his brothers did well in school but they often did not attend college. Colt was the first in his family to get a degree, which he received from Texas Tech University. He was brought on board the family business as a supervisor after college and helped his father turn the business even more profitable.

Colt met his wife, Jennifer Marie Hutchenson, at a Christmas party in 1988. The couple were married in 1989 and had a son 10 months later. The couple has three children named Joseph, Jacob and Jade.

Colt jumped into politics in 2011, with the retirement of the Congressman representing the 19th Congressional District of Texas. Colt filed papers to run and resigned from his position as owner of Cordell Cotton Farms. He faced off against a popular Democrat but won handily in a very lopsided election victory.

Colt lives with his wife, three children and several pets in their home outside of Lubbock, Texas. When Congress is in session, Colt lives alone in an apartment in Washington.

He can be described as a very conservative Republican.
