Biographical

Coleman Blease Courtenne was born on July 6th 1960 in Charleston, South Carolina. He was named after his great grandfather, Coleman Blease, who served as Governor of South Carolina for two terms, as well as six years in the United States Senate; he was famed for his racist, reactionary politics which preyed on the prejudicies of white working men as well as his erratic and often inconsistent policies. Courtenne has described him as "a man who governed for South Carolina."

Courtenne attended Georgetown University Law School and graduated with a magna cum laude degree, subsequently he spent twenty years practising in Richmond, Virginia where he met his wife and still maintains a home. In 1998, he was taken on by a K Street Lobbying Firm where he lobbied on behalf of both the tobacco and aerospace industries. During the period spent lobbying in DC, Courtenne left the law practice in Richmond and joined the firm of a friend as a partner in Charleston, a position which he maintains today. It was the involvement in the political process as a lobbyist which led him to run for Congress eight years later representing his hometown of Charleston.

He is currently the Republican Candidate for Governor of Appalachia.
