Popular Music of the 1920s

From Unawiki

The 1920s in America were, after an expression of the author Francis Scott Fitzgerald, called the ‘Jazz Age’. The music genre of Jazz was created originally by the black population and had roots in gospel and especially blues. Another version than this swing art of Jazz was the Jewish interpretation of Jazz which is for example presented in the movie “The Jazz Singer”. This music was largely designed for entertainment, an important factor for the ‘Roaring Twenties’ and its consumption generation. Technically, it was supported by radio broadcasting of music that spread popular songs to a huge audience and the introduction of talking pictures like “The Jazz Singer”. Important artists were Louis Armstrong, Duke Ellington and George Gershwin with his ‘Rhapsody in Blue’.
