Ultimatewiki:Policies

From Ultimatewiki

UltimateWiki has a set of policies in place to ensure everyone can get the best out of UltimateWiki. These policies are set in place by TechTeam.

Editing Policy

To ensure that all pages are as good as they could be, our policy is to:

  • Always ensure that content is correct (to your knowledge).
  • Gossip or hearsay is forbidden, only facts are permitted.
  • Your opinion should be excluded from all articles.
  • Opinions of a group of people are permitted, as long as this is clearly shown.
  • All articles must be neutral.
  • There are few rules beyond these documented here; be bold in editing, and don't worry about messing up!

Code of Conduct

To ensure that all users are treated well, please abide by these guidelines:

  • Be polite and civil at all times; treat others as you would like to be treated.
  • Recognise your own biases and ensure they are not displayed in articles.
  • Please ensure you do the mature thing and do not sink as low as other editors that are not as civil as you would like us to be. Be more civil than they are and allow TechTeam staff to deal with the troublemaker.
  • Avoid reverts (undoing an edit) and always abide by The Three-revert Rule.
  • NO personal attacks.

The Three-revert Rule

This rule is designed to stop an edit war (going back and forth between two editors' views of what an article should say) occuring.
It is forbidden to revert a page (return it to its pre-edited state) more than three times. The only exception is, in the case of false information, TechTeam staff, who may edit pages as they see fit.

Final words of advice

Here are some final words of advice from the TechTeam administrators:

  • Be open and warmly welcoming, not insular,
  • Be focused singlemindedly on writing an encyclopedia, not on debate,
  • Recognize and praise the best work, work that is detailed, factual, well-informed, and well-referenced,
  • Work to understand what neutrality requires and why it is so essential to and good for this project,
  • Treat your fellow productive, well-meaning members of UltimateWiki with respect and good will,
  • Attract and honor good people who know a lot and can write about it well, and
  • Show the door to trolls, vandals, and wiki-anarchists, who, if permitted, would waste your time and create a poisonous atmosphere here.
