- 09.05 A Better Read
- Presenter Tom Coyne talks to Naomi Lewis on the subject of animal books, and we also meet guest authors Joyce Stranger and Sheila Hocken.
- 09.30 Helping Hand
- There are some four million disabled people in Britain. How can they be helped to lead easier lives? This series, aimed at those who are not handicapped, answers that question. The presenters are Joe Hennessy and Pattie Coldwell.
- 10.10 Morning Worship
- The Rev. John Ward conducts this service from Nottingham Road Methodist Church, Mansfield, Nottinghamshire. Organist and choirmaster is Harry Martin.
- 11.00 Getting On
- Old age can be a good age. The programme explores a whole range of interests and activities with the elderly in mind.
- 11.30 Save It
- Another programme about cutting the cost of keeping warm in winter. Mike Smith demonstrates what should be done to insulate the walls of a house. Also, programme contributor David Simpson works out the payback period - the time it takes to recover your outlay by reduced fuel bills.
- 12.00 Business Decisions
- "The Cost of Conscience". Will businessmen sell products which they know to be harmful, possibly even deadly, to save their company? Will they close down a factory or put almost a whole town out of work in order to increase profits? How do they reach such painful decisions? In the last programme of the series, Paul Sieghart, acting as moderator, puts such hypothetical questions to a panel of businessmen to find out.

- Bamber Gascoigne quizzes two more university teams in this high-speed test of general knowledge.
- 13.30 Twentieth Century Box
- The second in a series about the pop music industry which looks at an important development in the rise of the small independent labels, and their challenge to the major established companies. Presenter is Danny Baker.
- 14.00 Under Manning
- Another session with Bernard Manning who meets unusual people with unusual occupations, and chooses some of them to take part in a comedy quiz. Charles Collingwood is the question-master.
- 14.30 Miss Universe - 1981
- In New York for that sparkling beauty pageant - Miss Universe. The contestants open the pageant by parading in national costumes and from the 80 girls in this line-up the judges choose 12 semi-finalists. Hosts are Bob Baker and Elke Sommer.
- 15.30 Man, Myth and Titans
- Burgess Meredith presents this exploration of Hollywood's long love affair with the heroes, villains and epic stories of mythology. There are excerpts from the earliest fantasy films and special effects master Ray Harryhausen discusses his most spectacular creations.
- 16.30 International Polo
- England v. Spain, from Smith's Lawn, Windsor. Live coverage as Prince Charles, at the start of his wedding week, represents his country in the first polo international against Spain. Also, Alistair Burnet interviews Prince Charles.

- Patrick Moore appeals on behalf of Refresh. This charity gives holidays to people who need machines to help them breathe.
- 18.20 Moses - the Lawgiver
- by Anthony Burgess, Vittorio Bonicelli, Gianfranco de Bosio. With Burt Lancaster, Anthony Quayle, Ingrid Thulin, Irene Papas. In the second episode of this six-part Biblical drama, Moses marries Zipporah and she bears him a son. The years pass and Moses, spoken to by God through the burning bush, is commanded to return to Egypt and lead his people out of slavery.

- Exclusive film highlights of an expedition by British explorers to circle the earth for the first time via both the Poles, by land, sea and ice.

- "The Big Aloha" - A wealthy family becomes involved in a murder investigation being conducted by Steve McGarrett (Jack Lord).
- 20.40 Bless Me, Father
- by Peter de Rosa. Arthur Lowe in "Fire and Brimstone", with Daniel Abineri, Gabrielle Daye. Can Fathers Duddleswell and Boyd bend the rules to comfort the little boy whose atheist grandfather is dying?
- 21.10 Tales of the Unexpected
- Andrew Ray, Elizabeth Spriggs, Elaine Paige, Martine Benson in "The Way To Do It". Quiet Roger Carson, supported and dominated by his wealthy aunt, seeks new excitement from life in a local casino where he falls for the pretty hostess, Susie. Her sinister boss, Vasco, using her as bait, plans to trap Roger and ruin him.

- Glenda Jackson, Oliver Reed, Brian Deacon. Set in a remote part of the English countryside in World War Two, the story concerns Alice Charlesworth, a woman who lives alone on a farm. Her husband is a prisoner of war in Japan.
