09.40 Balinese Surfer: The Balinese are traditionally suspicious of the sea, yet they have overcome their fear to master the new sport of surfing. Some of the best surfing waves in the world break off the coast of Bali, their homeland.

10.35 Band Waggon: Arthur Askey, Richard Murdoch, Pat Kirkwood. Dreaming of success in show business, Arthur and his pal Stinker are asked by their friend at the BBC, Claude Pilkington, to stand by for an audition. So they instal themselves in a flat on the roof of Broadcasting House. Months later, when they are still there, they are evicted (not in colour).

12.00 Cloppa Castle: "Squatters' Wrongs", by Anna Standon. Merry medieval adventures with the puppets of Cloppa Castle.

12.10 Rainbow: guest Felicity Gibson, "Safety: In the Street" - Geoffrey explains how to stay safe in the street. Jane, Rod and Roger sing about the people whose job it is to look after you. Guest Felicity Gibson reads the story "The Lollipop Lady" by Lynn Kate, illustrated by Nicola Smee.

12.30 The Music of Man: Yehudi Menuhin, "The Age of the Composer Part 1". The great composers Vivaldi, Bach, Mozart, Haydn, Beethoven and Schubert established music as an accessible and popular art in Western society. Their finest works still stand today as classics and continue to dominate modern concerts.

13.30 Play it Again: Bernard Manning - First of four programmes in which famous personalities recall their favourite film clips and talk about their lives. Film critic and broadcaster Tony Bilbow is host this week to comedian Bernard Manning, star of Sunday's "Under Manning." Manning, a considerable film buff, tells of his own taste in entertainment.

14.00 Live from Two: The magazine, presented by Shelley Rohde, that looks at serious and not so serious issues.

14.45 Big Shamus, Little Shamus: "The Assassin" - Adventures with hotel detective Arnie Sutter and his son, Max.

15.45 Now You See It: The family quiz, hosted by Johnny Beattie, where all the answers are right before your eyes. You just have to find them. Each week, four contestants play two big board games and one letter game to find a Now You See It winner. The winner receives a cash prizer, and each contestant gets an engraved crystal decanter with four matching glasses.

16.15 Speedy Gonzales: "Chilli Weather" - Speedy Gonzales helps out his hungry compatriots by smuggling out cheese.

16.20 How: Fred Dinenage, Marion Davies, Jack Hargreaves, Jon Miller. How to milk a snake, how to make your own pasta - just some of the questions answered by the "How" team this week.

16.45 Quest of Eagles: by Richard Cooper, with Ferdy Mayne, Michael Williams, Robert Urquhart, Vladek Sheybal. When Jane tells Vladek Gora she will show him where the treasure is hidden, Stefan and Sinckla are imprisoned by Gora's manservant.

17.15 Here's Boomer: The Harlem Globetrotters, "Boomer and the Bucketeers". Adventures with the incredible shaggy dog, Boomer. Today he helps a young ex-baseball star who is confined to a wheelchair after a car accident.

18.35 Crossroads: Meg Mortimer is very sceptical about David Hunter's promise. Ron Brownlow returns home to unhappy tidings.

19.00 Where There's Life...: Presenters Miriam Stoppard and Rob Buckman take another look, through doctors' eyes, at our lives and the world in which we live. They'll be listening to you and bringing you the inside stories.

19.30 Coronation Street: Vera Duckworth tells tales about Brian Tilsley and the alluring Glenda Fox.

20.00 The Big Top Variety Show: Bernie Winters, Pat Boone, Showaddywaddy, Rod Hull and Emu, with The Flying Germaines, Rudi Schweitzer, Peter Hudson, The Big Top Variety Dancers. Variety and circus are once again brought together for an exciting and spectacular show under the big top of Billy Smart's circus.

21.00 Playhouse: "Friends and Other Lovers", by Andrew Rissik. The story of Anna, her life and times as a youngster, and the high cost of looking for real love. Anna leaves school in 1973 and immediately sets out to make money by being a prostitute. Three years later she's studying at Oxford, romantically involved with a bashful young lecturer. By 1980 she is married and living extremely comfortably in Reading. But for Anna none of these various life-styles seems to give full satisfaction.

22.30 The Horsemen: Omar Sharif, Leigh Taylor-Young, Jack Palance. Defeated in an important tournament, Uraz is ashamed at not having lived up to the reputation of his father, the greatest of all horsemen in Afghanistan. He is obliged to inform his father personally of his failure. So despite a broken leg, he heads for home, picking up a gypsy girl named Zereh along the way. In excruciating pain, Uraz drives his servants so hard that they plot to kill him and make off with his money and his valuable stallion. Uraz is aware of the plot but continues to treat his retainers harshly, taking the most hazardous route possible.

00.30 Close: "Sit Up & Listen" as Wilfred Josephs reads a letter written by a famous composer.
