C. Additional Information in Support of your Application

1. Have you read and understood the following document published by the Charities Commission: [1]

YES

2. Please outline any experience you may have of working with a charity:

3. Give an account of any specialist or transferable skills you may have which would be relevant to the role of TWDF Trustee?
(e.g. PR/marketing, fundraising, accountancy, legal, HR, project management, specific connections with Fiji etc)

It is probably best to briefly summarise my career, as it has been varied and taken me pretty much around the world.
I have just taken a new position as recruitment consultant, based in the North East of England. Prior to this I held a similar position in Mallorca, Spain, running my own department, recruiting crew for private and charter yachts worldwide. I was with the company for five years, before returning to England to care for my mother.
Prior to my work in recruitment, I was employed as a chief stewardess/stewardess and deckhand on yachts cruising the Mediterranean, Caribbean and Far East. This involved managing interior crew duties, care of owners and guests, organising provisions and accounts.
In the mid 1980s, I worked for a holiday company as a holiday rep and resort manager. As anyone working in this industry will tell you, it can be hard work, where whatever can go wrong, probably will go wrong at some time! I was also required to organise and participate in entertainments on some of the larger sites.
In between my travels, I have worked in various temporary positions and for my family’s retail business as a secretary and book-keeper.

4. What experience, if any, do you have of serving on a committee?

5. What do you think will be the priorities for the TWDF Trustees in the next 6 months?

I consider one of the main priorities to be raising awareness of the TWDF. We could start by sending information packs (by email) to tribe members, which in turn may be forwarded to friends and contacts. We will also need to come up with fundraising ideas, which could be combined with some gatherings over the coming months. Suggestions have been made to set up membership of the foundation, which would require a small joining fee. Another possibility is to set up a facility to accept online donations. I have no doubt that the tribe will continue to prove their resourcefulness by coming up with many exciting ideas once the foundation is up and running.
Areas requiring urgent assistance will need to be assessed. The TWDF has already discussed plans for wiring the school on Mali, and I believe this to be a great place to start. We have close connections with the school and the completion of this project would be of huge benefit to the people we are hoping to help.

6. Have you been to Fiji/do you plan on going in the next few years? Please give details:

I visited Vorovoro as one of the first footers for nearly two weeks in early September 2006. It was a wonderful experience; in fact it was even better than I had imagined it would be. To me the highlights were the celebrations on September 1st, and visiting the school on Mali. I hope to return for the first anniversary of Tribewanted this September (new job permitting).

Would you be willing/able to carry out any relevant TWDF work while there?

Absolutely

7. If you are UK based, will you be able to attend meetings four times a year with the other Trustees and the occasional training day? (reasonable travel expenses will be paid):

Yes.

8. Please give any further details you think are relevant to your application:

The people of Mali and the surrounding area are some of the happiest and most generous people I have ever come across. It seems that they themselves have already given us so much, and now it is time for us to support them in whatever way we can. I would consider it an honour to be a part of the TWDF, be it as a trustee, or simply a volunteer.
