Overview

This page will be used as a working document to list, discuss, comment on, and finalise the Objectives for the Tribewanted Dream Foundation Charity (TWDF henceforth).

Types of Objectives

The Charities Commission lists over 30 groups of example objectives covering a range of common charitable activities. A number of these could be considered applicable to TWDF. We should be careful of being over-ambitious, and avoid listing everything that could be done. Objectives can be changed during the lifetime of the charity, so a bit of focus in the early stages would probably be advisable, particularly as some objectives need to be backed up by independent expert evidence to support the fact they are charitable AND worthy.

The groups that we may be interested in are:

Potential Objectives

Based on the guidelines, types of activities expected, fit with our TWDF thinking at this time, and level of difficulty in creating objectives to meet Charities Commission requirements, then Sustainable Development and Young People look like good starting points.

Using the example objectives as a basis, draft objectives specific to TWDF are given below.

Sustainable Development

To promote sustainable development in the region of Mali, Fiji, for the benefit of the public, by:

(a) the preservation, conservation and the protection of the environment and the prudent use of resources;
(b) the promotion of sustainable means of achieving economic growth and regeneration.

To advance the education of the public in subjects relating to sustainable development and the protection, enhancement and rehabilitation of the environment and to promote study and research in such subjects provided that the useful results of such study are disseminated to the public at large.

Sustainable development means “development which meets the needs of the present without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs.”

Objectives worded in this way have been previously ratified by the Charities Commission - see the CC decision on the Environment Foundation. Apart from the addition of the specific location, and the removal of a clause relating to the relief of poverty, the wording is identical to the example objective on the CC site.

Young People

To act as a resource for young people up to the age of 25 living in the region of Mali, Fiji, by providing advice and assistance and organising programmes of physical, educational and other activities as a means of:

(a) advancing in life and helping young people by developing their skills, capacities and capabilities to enable them to participate in society as independent, mature and responsible individuals;
(b) advancing education;
(c) relieving unemployment;
(d) providing recreational and leisure time activity in the interests of social welfare for people living in the area of benefit who have need by reason of their youth, age, infirmity or disability, poverty or social and economic circumstances with a view to improving the conditions of life of such persons

The above is one of three alternative example objectives for this type of activity, and seems most relevant in terms of scope and activities we are interested in undertaking.
