Boromir rushes forward. Knocking Pippin and Legolas over, he grabs onto Sam's backpack and pulls hard, sending Sam tumbling off the bridge and onto stable ground. However, Boromir cannot reach Gandalf. But Gandalf reaches the other side and urges the others across. Boromir now sees that either one person must cross alone each time or a hobbit can cross with anyone else.

Does Boromir:

• Start to cross alone.

• Invite Merry to join him.

• Wait for others to pass.
