Politely decline Gillian's offer

"Perhaps another time," you say to Gillian. "I would like to hang with Lyssa, for sure. But tonight I can't make it."

"My kid sister misses you," Gillian replies. "You are still friends, right?"

"Hell yes," you say. "We even share 2 classes. We just haven't spent every minute together the way we used to."

"You know," Gillian observes, "there may have been... another component, at least on your end. How long have you known you're... lesbian?"

"I wasn't fully aware until recently," you respond. "I don't think there was anything more than the bonds of friendship between me and Lyssa, but... who knows."

"You better go," Gillian says. "I'll take care of Rebecca. Nice to meet you, Melony."

After school ends, Lyssa joins you and Melony in the schoolyard. "My sister told me about the... conversation this morning," she says. "To tell you the truth... I always kind of had feelings for you, romantically. I was just too scared to say anything." Her face quivers, and she looks like she might start to cry.

You pull Lyssa into a hug. "Oh, wow," you say. "Melony and I were going to go to her house this evening. I wish I had known you felt that way about me."

You quickly hold a whispered conversation with Melony.

• Invite Lyssa with you to Melony's house
• Suggest that Melony and you go with Lyssa to her house
• Decide to take Lyssa and Melony to a music hall, where a good local blues band is playing
