Personality

Unlike most of the other teachers, Iruka is an off-the-wall, happy man. He isnt able to conceal his emotions at all, often blushing for no reason whatsoever other than hes greatly humbled by being in the presence of a higher ranking ninja... or for fan-related reasons. He often makes goofy remarks, such as his The next Hokage hasnt been picked yet but... MAYBE ITLL BE ME! followed by a dorky laugh. He loves nothing more than being with his students and enjoying ramen at Ichiraku with Naruto. He cares a great deal for Naruto and sympathizes with him as they both grew up alone to some extent.

Iruka becomes extremely protective if he believes his students are in danger, such as when Hatake Kakashi, Yuhi Kurenai, and Sarutobi Asuma submitted their students (which were former students of Irukas) to the Chuunin Exams. His argument with Kakashi is slammed to a halt when Kakashi states they are no longer his students, but Kakashis subordinates. His other reactions to Kakashi in the series involve scenes of blushing and stammering, attributing to the high popularity of the Kakashi Iruka pairing, which I support but do not force as I readily admit they havent been together in the manga long enough to make it painfully obvious.

His most favorite thing to eat is Ramen, hence his constant appearances at Ichiraku with his student Naruto, to whom hes become almost a surrogate father. Naruto indeed makes it clear, while fighting Sasuke in the final fight before meeting him again, that he wonders if being with Iruka-sensei is what having a father is like. It is fitting that Iruka makes such an excellent father, having held his own parents in such high esteem as to mourn for them for so long and to address them as heroes. He seems to want to be a father to those who have it tough, as he did.

Iruka, unlike the other Ninja of Konoha, cannot easily conceal his emotions at all. If he is happy, everyone knows. If he has cramps, everyone knows. In short, he teaches how to become a ninja, but cannot follow the 25th rule himself: Ninja do not show emotions.

Powers and Abilities

Irukas jutsu have not been developed in the manga fully as of yet, but I have a list of all of the Ninjutsu, Taijutsu, and Genjutsu on my computer and if push comes to shove I will give him very, very basic Taijutsu, as his Chakra could be severed. The Taijutsu he is able to use most certainly would be simple chakra charged punches and kicks, most likely hed be able to use Leaf Whirlwind and Leaf Gale. Leaf Gale/Konoha Reppu Type: Drank, Offensive, Short range (05m) By using his agility, Iruka would be able to perform a spinning kick to sweep his opponent off of their feet. Leaf Whirlwind/Konoha Senpu Type: Crank, Offensive, Short range (05m) Although this jutsu is a setup for a strong jutsu, Iruka would be able to use it effectively on its own by covering his foot in Chakra while ducking quickly and delivering a powerful upward kick, sending his opponent flying.

Any other forms of Taijutsu would be simple Chakra enhanced punches or kicks and are not given any special name, though, to be funny, Iruka would probably call them things like Dolphin Kick! or Dolphin Punch! Despite the humour, they would be strong.

History

Umino Iruka is a Chuunin Ninja of Konohagakure and is also a well known Pre-Genin Teacher at the Konoha Ninja Academy. He grew up in Konoha and serves as a Ninja when no other Chuunin can be called upon. His devotions lie in his teaching and in his students. At a young age, Irukas parents were killed by a beast known as the Kyuubi, or Nine Tails (a demon fox,) which now resides inside of the body of his most precious student, Naruto.

Coming home to an empty house was too much to bear, so Iruka became the class-clown. He would do anything for recognition, even if it meant being scolded. He just wanted people to see him. Reduced to a horrible state of secret grief, (which everyone seemed to be aware of in the anime) Iruka mourned almost daily at the marker honouring fallen Ninja as heroes. He was confronted on the issue by Sandaime (the third Hokage) and declared angrily that he wasnt mourning; he was proud to be the son of heroes, that his tears were those of joy. Embraced by Sandaime and told he was a member of Konoha, meaning every person in the village was a part of his family, Iruka was given new found hope in his life. He, like Sandaime had told him, carried within him the Will of Fire; nothing could take that away from him.

He devoted his life to being a teacher, more than likely out of his regret for being a fool as a child to gain attention. While teaching, he eventually ended up with a young boy known as Uzumaki Naruto in his class. Not much has been said about his initial feelings regarding Naruto, but when he later sacrifices his own life to save this boy, he divulges the secret pain hed felt ever since the death of his parents and telling Naruto he knew just how horrible it felt to be alone. Naruto, like Iruka, had done anything to get attention; this usually resulted in Iruka scolding him. Iruka admitted that he treated Naruto harshly because he wanted him to succeed; he knew what it was like to be seen as a failure.

Following the death of Sandaime, Naruto asked Iruka why people sacrifice themselves for others. Iruka explained that everyone was connected by a line and that the line between those who loved and cared for one another only continued to strengthen, becoming impossible to cut. It didnt matter who they were; anyone who cared for anyone else would be willing to die for someone they shared this bond with. This could very well mean that the line between Iruka and Naruto is amazingly strong. It also says a lot about the line between Naruto and Sasuke, as well as Sakura.
