Personality

When he was younger, Obi-wan Kenobi was certainly a different character to what he was later in the series. Possessing a dry sense of humor and sarcastic wit, Yoda often admitted to sensing defiance within him though speaking highly of him within the same breath nonetheless, holding considerable knowledge and potential, compared to his master he was relatively orthodox in his views. Cynical though wise, his humble and soft-spoken demeanor covered his warrior prowess. Representing the strength of the old Jedi Order, he was steadfast, selfless and modest, and even from his youth pressed himself as deeply into his efforts as possible to make his attempts worthwhile. Often considered a negotiator, Kenobi holds talent by honoring such a name, resolving disputes without a single battle. Bold and out going, Obi-wan grew to be every bit of what his master was, holding often defiance in his words and step, though respect. Full of youthful audacity, eager to please, eager to act, yet, there are always dark sides to every character and Obi-wan, still within his training, often finds himself slipping, though, reminds himself quickly to check himself. His master did not teach a simpleton and his honor in which he fights beside him and understanding in his teachings speaks enough for his character. Though, often lurking in his eyes lies a jealous soul, his master important to him as a father and with attentions turned elsewhere, Obi-wan finds himself eager to prove himself better, though is good keeping such things silent behind closed lips. Repressing a sharp tongue and his sense of humor, Obi-wan is still a young, impatient, sarcastic Padawan. To hard on himself, thinking to much and his heart and head always in debate, he can be easily irritable though often concealed, cynical, uptight and a little to curious for his own good, he is still a wise and humble character, yet, everyone has their flaws.

Powers and Abilities

Trained as a guardian, Obi-wan as a young Jedi Padawan showed much potential, being able to resist memory wipe and defeating the corrupt with his talents in lightstaber dueling. Trained in Ataru, a more aggressive style of fighting, he would later abandon the form due to its lack of defense resulting in the death of his master, Qui-Gon Jinn {Though he is pulled into the thes1project before he is able to change}. A style stretching back through the Old republic, it holds a fast-paced and effective style against single opponents though weaker in prolonged combat and confined spaces. Characterized by Force-assisted acrobatics, both for attack and defense, and fast, powerful strikes, Ataru was also the style his master possessed, in return, teaching it to his apprentice. Schooled not only in such a style, Kenobi also found strengths in duel-wilding {Jar’Kai style} and utilizing his weapon along with his mind, using techniques of strategy to success {Sokan}. Though lacking the power of his lightsaber, he knows how to imply such techniques and portray them through other weapons if he was to get his hands upon them. Despite such focus in lightsaber combat, Kenobi holds a powerful ally in the Force. Trained in the use of mind track, force persuasion and more advanced skills such as dominate mind, and the powerful Force push. An excellent pilot through and through, Obi-wan is fluent in many languages but the issue behind all this is, is that now, some of these talents serve little use. Though being a Padawan, it is the universe that brings out the weakness in the character. The repression of the lack of connection through Force, lowers his strength in such abilities down to only being able to feel things out through the sensations, a small prickle in the back of his mind, just enough to keep him sane. His lightsaber deactivated, only the stances and strikes serve him, having to use his wit and mind instead of force, power through something he once held so dear and now, feeling useless, one can only take care of what they have before them.

History

Born in 57 BBY, Kenobi was the first son of a moderately wealthy family, taken to Coruscent to begin his Jedi training shortly after his birth. Though his home world is unknown, Obi-wan shares small memories of a brother named Owen and the greenery of a lush and fruitful planet. As a youngling, Obi-wan was trained under Yoda and amongst other Jedi hopefuls of his age. Characters such as, Bant, Eerin, Garen, Muln and Quilan Vos, Siri Tachi soon became lifelong friends. But a life was no good without rivals as well. Bruck Chun and Aalto would constantly test the younger and be there to challenge him every step of the way. Becoming part of what many Jedi referred to as the Old Guard, he would to be considered likely to put on the Jedi High Council as he grew.

Fascinated by machines, building models of ships and even dreaming of becoming a pilot. Obi-wan, had a innate ability to repair machinery and reprogram computers, yet, because of his ability to learn quickly, he became arrogant and was often considered impatient. Under the guidance of Yoda though, he came to learn to become more humble and reserved. Despite the speed of his growth as a Jedi, by the time Obi-wan reached the age of 12, it seemed that his chances of becoming a Jedi Knight had all passed him by; Younglings who weren’t selected to be Padawans by the age of 13 would be shifted into one of the divisions of the Jedi Service Corps. Yet, fate played a better hand in the fact that one day, Jedi Master Qui-Gon Jinn would come to visit the Jedi Temple in hopes of finding an apprentice. Dueling one of his rivals to draw attention to the maverick Knight, Obi-wan fought strongly to the point of exhaustion, and carried out his offense so fiercely that Qui-Gon found Kenobi to be too dangerous to be trained. Sent to the mining colony of Bandomeer to work as a ploughman for the ArgiCorps, Obi-wan found himself in the deepest pits of self loathing he had ever considered. Strange enough though, Qui-Gon, being sent to the same place on a mission, ran into the young Kenobi, forcing them to work together which was a trap set for Qui-Gon by his former Padawan, Xanatos. Showing himself worthy enough to be taken as a Padawan learner, Obi-wan started his journey as an apprentice, showing the master his true potential. Off to a bad start, the pairs personas were constantly at odds; Qui-Gon was headstrong, while Obi-wan was more practical, though, as time continued, they both learned from each other and gained the opposing natures to blend well. Loosing his trust once when he abandoned the Order for a civil war on Melida/Dann, Obi-wan elected to stay and help the children, otherwise known as the Young, who were fighting against their tradition obsessed elders. Upon his return, he was accepted back by his master, though it would take a long time for them to fully trust each other again. Later he would carry the guilt of the death of his rival Bruck Chun after killing him in a duel attempting to save his friend Ban Eerin, it would be something that stay with him for years to come.

At the age of 14 he fought along side his master at the Stark Hyperspace War, a small-scale conflict that plagued the Galactic Republic in its final days. During this time though, was when Obi-wan’s enduring friendship with fellow Padawan Quilan Vos truly began as they were placed on training missions together and fought after next to each other often. Before the Battle of Naboo, Obi-wan and Qui-Gon participated in the colonization of Alaris Prime, battling the Trade Federation and assisting with missions on Yinchorr and Dorvalla, dealing further with the Trade Federation and the Nebula Front, failing ultimately with the Eriadu Trade Summit (33 BBY).

Dispatched by Supreme Chancellor Finish Valorum in 32 BBY to resolve the Blockade of Naboo, Kenobi, twenty years old, and his Master Qui-Gin Jinn where sent as ambassadors for the trade dispute. Betrayed by Nute Gunray and the Federation, their attempted assassination upon the ship Saak’ak forced them to flee to Naboo’s surface to warn them of the oncoming invasion. Encountering a native of the planet, the Gungan Jar Jar Binks, they were taken to meet with the Gungan inhabitants of Otoh Gunga. Hesitant at first, Obi-wan agreed with Qui-Gon and headed down. Though they were dismissed, they were sent my Tribubble bongo to the capital city of Theed.

After their arrival in Theed, the Jedi rescued the Queen and her companions, escaping the Federations prying eyes, they headed to the Outer Rim to the planet known as Tatooine. It is there where Kenobi’s master found a boy by the name of Anakin Skywalker, showing tremendous potential in the Force, yet, also bringing out a rather jealous conflict within Obi-wan when his master decided that the boy be trained. Though amazed by Anakin’s potential, he disagreed with his master’s decision; he believe as the Jedi Council would later concur, that the boy was to old and had to many emotional attachments to become Jedi.

During this time, it was found that a dangerous foe would prove them trouble along the route, for after fleeing the planet, it was determined that the adversary that attack Qui-Gon was indeed a Sith, and it was the Sith that would change his life forever.

During the Battle of Naboo, Obi-wan along side his master fought to protect the Queen, yet it was not until they were confronted by Darth Maul, a Sith Lord and apprentice to Darth Sidious, that things became complicated. Skillful in his fight, Maul proved to be a worthwhile opponent, wielding a double-bladed lightsabder, managing to separate the Master from the Padawan. His Master fighting alone, Obi-wan could only watch one as Qui-Gon did his best to fend off the Sith until Kenobi could catch up with them, but being exhausted by the lengthy duel, and deprived of the space necessary to properly utilized his form of light saber combat, Obi-wan would witness the most catastrophic event he would ever come to see behind his watching gaze. Stuck behind a field that would only deactivate every minute or so, Kenobi could only witness the event as Maul slammed his lightsaber hilt into his masters chin and in the moment, reversed his weapon to stab Qui-Gon in the chest. Watching his master fall to the ground, Kenobi shouted out in horror as he watched his master fall the ground.

Enraged and blinded at his wounded master, the field gave way and Obi-wan quickly charged at Maul. It was in that moment were he felt the sorrow, the guilt and the hate, that he felt the ground give out from below his feet, and found himself in a place that would give him now answerer and give him no hope.
