Personality

A young girl with a mind that reaches beyond her age, even her time period. She could probably be brilliant if she weren't stuck in her old ways. Growing up on the streets of London was not an easy life for the young girl and it had lasting effects on her psyche, things that just couldn't be changed. For starters, women of her day were to be seen, not heard, delicate, and frail. For Jacky, this is exactly the opposite.

Jacky is loud. She is outgoing, and she is nearly always cheerful. The girl barely understands the word 'silence'. With such an upbeat and charismatic personality it is too hard to restrain her behaviors. Instead, she chooses to share her charisma with all she meets. Anyone who talks to the girl can't help but smile and dance along with her. Well, almost anyone. Her behaviors can sometimes be offensive or rude, but it really all depends on the way people think. Normally, Jacky is always happy. She is never without a caring thought and is highly selfless. Combine this with an naturally outgoing personality and you've got one heck of a girl.

Naturally, though, there has to be some balance in a girl's personality when she's this outgoing and cheerful. All of Jacky's kindness and charisma has been directed into strong leadership skills and a fierce sense of independence. Jacky is young, younger than most would expect her to be, and she could easily be overlooked in a crowd, but Jacky has made a point never to be in the shadows again. She is always ready to take charge of bad situations, and if it isn't a bad situation then she'll find another way to make her presence known. She is performer sometimes and a fighter, she stands on her own two feet and doesn't depend on anyone but herself. Her life has taught her this much.

Despite the fact that Jacky is strong and cheerful she does have a more sorrowful side, a side she works hard to hide. Her life has been filled with hardships, and she can't simply shake them as easily as she wishes. Sometimes Jacky is prone to bouts of depression when remembering events of the past. Normally she'll spend a few hours in tears, and then she'll be back to normal and act as though it never happened. She is used to surviving on her own and taking care of herself, and doesn't wish to burden herself on anyone.

Powers and Abilities

Jacky is a normal human being with no powers whatsoever. She's completely unaware that people with powers even exist. Although, being powerless hasn't made her weak. Jacky is highly skilled in the use of a saber, a pistol, a shiv, and a cannon, should she ever find one in her possession. Life on the seas and in the streets cause the need to be skilled in fighting, and this need led to her learning how to use various weapons, even if it was highly disapproved of. Her most preferred choice of weaponry, though, is her shiv. It makes for nice, clean attacks, and can be highly useful if the user knows what they are doing.

Not only is Jacky skilled in the use of weapons, but she has a sharp, analytical mind. Sometimes she can make bad decisions if she doesn't think things through, properly, but most of the time she will analyze a situation and take the best course of action, or sometimes she'll find the right path to take in an instant. She is a brilliant reader, skilled in musical instruments like the violin and pennywhistle, a talented dancer, great navigator, and much more, all because she puts her mind to it. If she concentrates hard enough, there is not a thing she can't do.

History

Mary Faber was born into a good family. Her mother was a fine lady of society, but the 1800's brought along many diseases, one of which left young Mary family-less and homeless. It was from there that her life as a beggar began. Mary grew up on the streets of London in a gang under Blackfriar's Bridge. When the leader of her gang, Rooster Charlie, is murdered for taking a joke too far with the local gravedigger, she decides life as a beggar is not what she needs. Thus, she decided to begin her life out at sea aboard the HMS Dolphin as a ship's boy.

On this journey Mary decided to rid herself of her old life and gained the new name Jacky Faber. And she made sure no one knew she was a girl in order to keep the better life she had gained. But she was able to explain to the one man she managed to fall for just who she really was, and in turn he fell in love with her. Life was rough for Jacky, as she was aboard a British warship pursuing a French Pirate, who damages the Dolphin causing it to sail to the nearest land. It is here that Jacky is tied to a kite, only after being promoted in the Navy, and is lost at sea where she is then stranded on an island. Eventually, the Dolphin finally finds her along with the French pirate, who discovers she's a girl and threatens to hang her if the Dolphin doesn't surrender. And as the barrel falls from beneath her and her world darkens the Dolphin rushes to her rescue.

After her near death experience the Dolphin decides that the Navy is no place for a woman and Jacky is sent to the Lawson Peabody School for Girls where life does not get any easier. Jacky was born for the sea life, not to be a fine lady. And after her best friend's brother leaves his engagement to pursue Jacky and a Preacher attempts to kill her for being what he says is a 'witch' Jacky hops aboard the first whaler ship she finds and runs off for London to be with her beloved fiancée, Jaimy.

But being in London doesn't simplify anything. Especially when Jacky dresses as a horse jockey to try and see him, only to find that he is with another woman. As she runs far from her sorrows she is grabbed and forced to re-enlist in the Navy, despite the fact that the captain should have sent her back upon discovering that she was a woman. Jacky gains friends on board the ship, and is even promoted to Lieutenant. When the captain decides that having Jacky only as a Lieutenant is not enough, and dies in the process, Jacky becomes captain herself.

And Jacky is a good captain, and she leads her crew well, until a British warship boards her ship and decides that a woman is not fit captain. It is at this time that Jacky ensures that her crew will not be punished for what she has done and decides to take her chances with the sea where she swims to a ship she should have returned to the British to set off on her next adventure. An adventure that started with becoming a privateer and only gets better from then on, or some might hope. Jacky's bad luck doesn't end here. She is quick to discover that stealing a ship, though she claims it was part of her cut as captain of the Wolverine, and blackmailing the government with news of a French spy ring for a Letter of Marque was not exactly the brightest idea of hers. Not whenever her Letter of Marque is rescinded and she is now more of a pirate than a privateer with all of the British Navy after her. Who wouldn't try to capture a mere woman with a prize of a Captain's annual salary on her head?

Unluckily for her, she is not as quick as she would have hoped. She was caught by the same ship that stopped her aboard the Wolverine, and her beloved ship is sent to the bottom of the ocean while she is being transported back to England to be tried, though she is sure it will end in her death. And her beloved Jaimy happens to be aboard the same ship as her now, as well. The only bright thing that happens to her is the discovery that Jaimy was always faithful to her, and their engagement is renewed. But en route to England a battle breaks out between the French and England, and Jacky's ship is forced to fight. Jacky frees herself from the confines of the brig and aids her shipmates in winning their battle, but not without suffering losses that will haunt Jacky's dreams. After the battle the captain who arrested Jacky decides she has earned her freedom, at least from him. She is sent out on a boat to wherever she chooses, a chance to escape and be free.
