Personality
As the founder of the Uchiha line, and one of the first known Uchiha to possess the Mangekyou, Uchiha Madara is properly arrogant�but it�s in a subtler way than his descendants (such as Itachi) or his compatriots (such as Orochimaru). Having achieved what he has, Madara considers himself above the rules and above everyone else; it�s a privilege to you just to be talking to him or sharing the air he breathes. His shit doesn�t stink, and while he won�t come out to say it, it�ll be evident in everything he does or says.
But this attitude isn�t without merit; he�s smart, really smart, widely learned, and knows how to use that knowledge to his best advantage. He is always three steps ahead of even the best people, and that is how he can play both ends against each other and end out on top while the others fall. He is the shadow behind every throne from one end of the continent to the other, more manipulative and cunning than anyone alive. If this were a party, he would be the one who had mixed the spiked punch before he was even invited.
He is handsome, charming, and ice-cold. Good luck trying to find a flame hot enough to melt him.
Powers and Abilities
CANON: Madara keeps his own abilities a closely guarded secret, so not much is known about them (read: Kishimoto is a tit and hasn�t told us shit about Madara yet). It�s assumed that he has all the usual Uchiha fire jutsu. What is remarkable about him is his Eternal Mangekyou Sharingan.
Normally, use of the Mangekyou will cause the user to eventually go blind; Itachi said the �kaleidoscope will lose its light� over time. Because Madara stole his brother�s eyes, he has passed over this rule; his use of the Mangekyou will never cause him blindness.
AU: As with Itachi and Sasuke, use of the Sharingan will cause Madara immense strain. Drawing chakra for his jutsus will cause shaking and quick fatigue. He will still have easy use of taijutsu that do not require too much of a chakra boost.
History
This is a tale of two brothers, but not the ones you might think.
Before the Uchiha clan came together, there was Uchiha Madara, his brother, and the Sharingan. Madara and his brother were in constant competition, striving to one-up each other, and as a result both achieved the Mangekyou Sharingan. However, after awakening them, Madara began to go blind. Such was the price one pays for such power.
Desperate, Madara betrayed his brother and took his eyes, replacing his own with them. His Mangekyou changed, became a combination of both of them, and never after that dimmed.
Some time after this, the Shodai Hokage formed Konoha, and Madara, his friend, led the clan and joined with them. Things were peaceful for a time, but Madara and the First had a falling-out that led to their battle at the Valley of the End. Madara fled Fire Country and founded Akatsuki. He had abilities strong enough to force bijuu to submit to his will, and was behind the Kyuubi�s attack on Konoha. The Kyuubi was sealed, and Madara remained underground with the beginnings of the Akatsuki, emerging only to inspire Itachi�s massacre of the clan and invite him to join the Akatsuki.
It is said that Madara is disguising himself as Tobi, and pulling Pein�s strings from the shadows, but beyond this, nothing is known.
