Personality
Allen tends to be shy around strangers, but he's very polite when interacting with new people. He has no problem getting up in front of a crowd to perform, in fact he enjoys it. It's the personal interaction that can leave him flustered sometimes. He has a humbleness that is unshakable before most, and is self sacrificial to the worry of his friends. He is caring in ways you could not imagine, even for souls and departed beings of the world.
He does, however, have a rather serious side to him and a backbone the likes of which you would never assume. Whenever there is someone in danger, most especially someone he considers a friend and companion, he rises to the occasion with an unrivaled determination. His emotions can often get the best of him in these situations and at times can become a downfall when up against something he is ill-prepared for. Allen is also a rather awkward teenage boy. He is only fifteen years old and despite all he has gone through in the end he still has spazzy moments, arguments against others about nicknames or situations.
His time with General Cross has had a lasting impression on him. Allen doesn't seem to have much self worth, and could easily be attributed to how he was treated with Cross. He was needlessly abused by this man. Their relationship was literally more like a Master//Slave relationship rather then Teacher/Studen and could account for much of his social awkwardness and odd behaviors. He was actually terrified of meeting other generals because of how he was treated. I believe this is the reason why he was so quick to believe that he was no longer human, and nothing more then a weapon to fight akuma.
Despite all of this he's never abandoned his fathers tenement of 'keep walking.' No mater what horrible things happened to him, no matter how pained he became, Allen always pushed himself through it with an almost single-minded determination. Fear and depression never held him back from the things he needed to accomplish.
Powers and Abilities
An Innocence weapon is the only weapon that can both destroy an akuma and release the trapped soul inside. If something else manages to destroy an akuma, then the soul is destroyed as well. Much like the akuma, because Allen's innocence is a parasite type it has gone through a series of evolutions.
Form 1: a massive white claw that can change in size, growing large enough to tear the roof off a house if he wanted. It looks like plated armor made of bone. Form 2: a cannon that shoots out rods of energy that can litter an area, even be picked up and used as weapons but they'll disappear the moment he deactivates. Form 3: similar to the cannon only instead of firing the rods, one of them remains as something like a light saber.
The final form is drastically different and changes more then just his arm. It has been given the name The Clown of God or 'The Crowned Clown' due to it's jester like appearance. When invoked, a white light cloak drapes around his body, shifting in length and form as he moves. It doesn't look tangible, but it is able to act as a shield against akuma attacks.
Another distinguishable feature about the Crowned Clown is that there is a distinctly harlequin-esque, silver mask that will cover Allen's face, or hover off to the side over his shoulder. It seems to act as though it were the face of his Innocence itself.
His arm has a new form, thin and sleek and black with a hand that looks more like a cluster of scythes rather then fingers. Allen can also remove this arm, taking it by the wrist and pulling until it forms into a gigantic claymore thats about a foot wide and longer then his body is tall. It has the power to exorcise evil, leaving the host unharmed. Though in the case of the Noah, it seems to unleash their full potential.
Along with the Crowned Clown form came a slew of new abilities: Cross Grave: By etching a cross onto a target, he can crucify and destroy them with little effort. (The was a time when he touched a Lvl3 akuma and it seemed to fall into a state of elation as it's soul was saved and set free just before it was destroyed. I don't know if that is part of this ability or something else) Clown Belt: The cape that Allen's innocence forms can be formed into webbing of energy that can be used to grasp objects, immobilize opponents, or form hardened spikes to impale enemies. Crown Edge: An attack that fires crown like rings of energy from his claws, Edge End: A powerful swipe of raw Innocence energy let loose when Allen slashes with his claws.
When de-activated, his arm is still much stronger than a normal human. He has been able to catch bullets with it or stop blades.
Like his Innocence, the curse in Allen's eye evolved over time as well. Initially, whenever Akuma were near by it would activate, turning black with red rings. It let him see the souls that were trapped inside the akuma. During the battle at Krory's castle where Allen was fighting the Akuma call Eliade, Allen's cursed eye went through a transformation. A strange, bonelike monocle appeared around his eye that magnified his powers, allowing him not only to see the chained souls, but to hear them beg for help and cry in anguish.
S1 Limitations: Ever since Allen hit the Crowned Crown form of his Innocence, we never see the older forms of it again. Since it's refereed to as an 'evolution' I don't think he can go backwards. I'm going to keep him having the cloak and mask and scythe claws, but he's not going to have the strength to use any of his other abilities like the Cross Grave and the Edge End.
It's going to be hard for him to actually invoke it because Allen needs to eat inordinate amounts of food to keep up his energy because it is a parasite. Because the lack of food in S1, every time he invokes it he'll be left in exhaustion. But without akuma around he really doesn't have a need to invoke it.
His eye will work as normal, but since there are no akuma it's not going to offer him any help with anything he might be doing. Though, the purpose of the eye is to seek out akuma, and on occasion it's going to try weather or not he wants it too. This happened a few times in the manga, and more times then we've seen. Whenever this happens, it causes Allen a lot of pain and distress.
History
When Allen was an infant, his parents abandoned him because of the supposed 'deformity' of his left arm. He was found by Mana Walker on Christmas day. Mana adopted the boy and raised him himself. Allen became apart of Mana's traveling performance troupe, learning many different performances himself to help earn them money to continue.
Mana died when Allen was still a young child, and it left him torn up with grief. While visiting his father's grave, Allen was visited by the Earl of the Millennium who promised that he could bring Mana back and all the boy would have to do is call his name.
In his desperation, Allen agreed. The Millennium Earl did keep his promise, he called Mana's soul back but trapped it in one of his robotic toys, turning him into a demon and commanding that he kill Allen. In a rage, Mana carved Allen's face and laid a curse in his left eye, forcing him to see the souls that had been trapped inside demons, just as he had been.
All on it's own, his left arm transformed into a giant claw in an effort to save Allen's life and destroyed Mana. The shock of being the cause of his father's 'second death,' turned Allen's hair snowy white, and it's remained that way ever since.
He was found soon after by Cross Marian, a general of the Black Order. The Black Order is a secretive organization whose members are known as Exorcists. Cross was extremely abusive, both physically, emotionally, and verbally. He worked the boy to exhaustion, not in any sort of training but to pay off the frivolous debts he constantly builds up. Eventually, Allen became quite the card shark in an attempt to make his master money without almost dying.
When he felt it was time, Cross told Allen to take his golem, Timcampy, and travel to the headquarters of the Black Order to continue his training. instead of just sending him on his way, Cross beat him unconscious with a hammer so he wouldn't be able to tell anyone where he had run off too. Cross never taught Allen much of anything in the time they were together, he didn't learn about what Innocence was until he was sent to the Black Order where Komui explained everything he should have already known to him. His method of teaching him how to fight was to throw him into life or death situations an sit back to see if he makes it out alive.
With the Order, Allen learned about Innocence, Akuma, the Noah and the Millennium Earl. For the first time in his life he had friends, and he had the first moments of happiness since his father died. He started going out on missions to find lost Innocence and to destroy akuma wherever they cropped up.
Along with fellow exorcists, Lenalee and Lavi, he brought into the fold two new members of the Black Order. Miranda Lotto, who's Innocence can control time, and Arystar Krory, who like Allen has a parasitic Innocence, meaning that his Innocence is apart of his body rather then a weapon to be carried.
The next important mission Allen was sent on was to find his missing master, General Cross. On the way he tried to explain to Lenalee why Cross wasn't the great man everyone thought he was. He opened up to her and told her some of the things he had put him through, but she just blew it off as if she didn't want to hear it. He didn't say so, he probably felt betrayed by her lack of effort to understand and never spoke of it again (outside the occasional exclamation that Cross was a monster).
While attempting to save the Fallen called Suman, Allen met up with the Noah named Tiki Mikk, who was sent by the Earl to kill him. Tiki controls butterfly golems that he calls 'Tease,' and used one of them to phase into Allen's body and hollow out a portion of his heart to he would die slowly. Tiki tore away Allen's Innocence and destroyed it, then left him there to die.
Allen was rescued by his own Innocence which is something that had never happened before in the history of the Black Order. It put part of itself in the place of the part of Allen's heart that was missing and took over for the damaged organ.
He was found by Fou, the guardian deity of the Order's Asian Branch, and brought there so he could recover. His Innocence followed, having not been completely destroyed but merely reduced to a fine mist. Allen was determined to discover a way to synchronize with his Innocence again and underwent and extensive and grueling training period with Fou to try and figure out what the Innocence wanted. He'd fight for nearly twenty four hours straight, needing to be commanded to get rest or he would have continued.
His Innocence didn't return to him until after a Lvl3 akuma attacked the Asian Branch. He demanded that he be allowed to fight because that was the path he had chosen to follow. He didn't consider himself to be human anymore, he was a weapon to destroy akuma and he was worth nothing if he couldn't fight.
The Lvl3 had an ability to break down whatever it attacked, and it had reduced Allen to little more then a mist himself. He had what amounted to an epiphany, realizing that he did not walk one path but two. He heard the soul inside the akuma calling to him, begging him for his help and wanting to be loved. Allen reformed with his Innocence, his sync ratio surpassing 100% and evolving into the new form, The Clown of God.
What had been holding him back was the fact that his worry and love for his friends was conflicting with the overpowering urge to destroy akuma. He was unable to give up one path for the other, and his decision to walk both paths at the same time brought him a new power. He would give his right hand for humanity, and his left for the akuma. He would save them all.
Allen followed the path left by the akuma. joining his friends in Japan where they entered the Ark and battled the Noah family and met up with General Cross again. The Millennium Earl was attempting to download all the data from the old Ark into a new, more powerful one. The process was destroying the Ark they were in, along with his friends.
With the help of Timcampy, he found himself in a glass room with a piano in it. As Allen moved through the room, his reflection in the walls was inverted, giving him an almost Noah like visage. The reflection said that Allen and Timcampy together had the 'power of the musician' and pointed to the piano which he referred to as the 'key."
This room belonged to the 14th Noah, and even the Earl didn't know where it was or how to get in. Tim sat on top of the instrument and opened his mouth, projecting an image of a score of music written in a bizarre language. Despite the fact the he has never played a piano before, he was able to read the strange music and play the instrument.
The Ark that was falling apart regenerated along with his friends, and the Earl's plan had been completely destroyed. When they finally returned to headquarters, Allen starts to remember times when he was a little boy where he an Mana would draw out strange characters. He thought it was just a language they had made up for fun, but it was the same language that he read in the music score. He continued to see that strange dark person in mirrored surfaces, not as a reflection but as a second figure next to his own. Though, no one else seems to be able to see him besides Allen.
