Personality
Kenshin's intentions are noble, his speech sincere and soft-spoken, and when anyone is in trouble; he risks his own life to save them. He goes the extra mile and never complains. He comes across as a silly guy with too soft a heart, his time spent entertaining children. He finds peace in those times, even it it seems his battles never end.
He's been alone, and quiet, most of his life. At times he spends days alone, melancholic and unable to make people come into his world, often reffering to himself as 'sessha'; this unworthy one.
His past is soaked in the blood of countless men and they weighs as a heavy burden on his soul. He is not to be the Hitokiri anymore and despises the fact that he ever was. Yet, he realizes he can never stop using his blade, acknowledging the truth in the words, "Hitokiri wa Hitokiri."
That part of him lives on inside of him, a golden eyed phantom of darkness, a heartless and silent killer.
Kenshin puts everyone else before him, often disregarding his own safety to ensure the safety of others. He has taken a vow never to take the life of another person, and that can make him even more vulnerable when he is not willing to kill or be killed. Though he is willing to kill again in extreme circumstances if it means it will save the life of someone he cares about.
Powers and Abilities
Battōjutsu: techniques in attacking while drawing one's sword from his sheath.
Hiten Mitsurugi-Ryū: a highly secretive and specialized sword style based on utilizing godlike speed, or shinsoku, and precision to deal powerful blows that usually bring down foes with one shot. The swordsman must also be able to read techniques at an amazing pace as well as interpret emotions as a form of clairvoyance in order to accurately predict what an opponent will do. Combining those two elements with the speed and the precision allows Kenshin to subdue opponents before they ever act.
History
At fourteen years of age, Kenshin was the child prodigy. So as a child he became a swift and silent killer, skilled beyond the most talented of adult men. It wasn't until he lost the one person that meant the most to him, that he finally understood his Master's teachings. He was not just ending lives of men on the opposite side of a war, but he was also destroying the countless lives of people who were connected to that one soul. They were not just nameless men; they were fathers, sons, and brothers . . .the realization of this came crashing down on him with such a fierceness it completely destroyed all sense of self worth within him.
When the war was over he cast aside his blade and picked up the Sakabatou, a reverse-blade sword, vowing never to kill again. Wandering the countryside in tattered clothes, with a weapon that was not really a weapon; a sliver of metal related only to the swords he once slaughtered with by the similar steel it was made of, and his similar style of wielding it. He wandered for ten years, truly believing it did not matter weather he was alive or dead.
