Personality
He is generally a laid-back, jovial fellow, although he can be absolutely serious when the situation warrants it. Despite his carefree attitude, his speech is always polite, though it is sometimes sarcastic. Yoruichi Shihōin notes that he tends to go over the top with whatever he becomes passionate about. He once described himself as a "mere honest, handsome, perverted businessman." He tends to keep himself out of trouble, prefering more to give tips from the sideline, and is usually ten steps ahead, and if required, he can be rather manipulative, in other words, he is a major driving force throughout much of the story, he is usually only the catalyst, making others to do the work for him.
Powers and Abilities
Kisuke is an extremely skilled fighter, using a combination of powerful attacks and cunning deceptions. Kisuke Urahara is also a former captain of the 12th Division of the Gotei 13, and the founder and the first president of the Shinigami Research Institute, meaning that other than his Shinigami skills, he has a knack for inventing things.
Kisuke Urahara's zanpakutō is Benihime. When sealed, Benihime takes the form of a shikomizue (a blade hidden inside Urahara's cane). The shaft of the cane is able to separate a soul from a body, much like Rukia Kuchiki's glove. The shikai command of Benihime is "awaken".
In its shikai, Benihime's blade becomes a bit wider than that of a sealed zanpakutō and the hilt curves, adding a crimson ribbon and other elaborate decorations around it. Benihime has two known special abilities, one for offense and one for defense. Benihime's defensive ability forms a polygonal "blood mist shield" in front of Urahara. Benihime's offensive ability fires a crimson-colored energy blast which is similar to a cero. It is unknown what Benihime's bankai is, only that it only took him 3 days to achieve it.
History
Kisuke Urahara was formerly the captain of the 12th Division of the Gotei 13 and the founder and the first president of the Shinigami Research Institute both of which has been succeeded by Mayuri Kurotsuchi.
Creator of many techniques, he created the method of acheiving bankai in 3 days, using himself as training. Also, littered across Soul Society would be things he created, whether it is hidden and unknown [hey, filler episodes].
One hundred years before his meeting with Ichigo Kurosaki, Kisuke was sentenced to exile by Soul Society for creating an untraceable gigai which caused the spiritual power of the shinigami inside it to deteriorate and transformed them into humans, as well as the Orb of Distortion. Yoruichi helped him escape and, for reasons yet unknown, ran away with him as well. These two objects later come into play, in which Rukia Kuchiki was given the gigai, and Sousuke Aizen almost destroyed Soul Society for the Orb.
Currently, Kisuke works as a type of shop keeper selling unusual goods, mainly shinigami items for the Shinigami who traverse the human realm. . The shop is maintained by Urahara himself as well as Ururu Tsumugiya, Jinta Hanakari, and Tessai Tsukabishi, and Yoruichi seems to take refuge there.
