Personality

As befitting an extremely long-lived and sociopathic vampire, Kakuzu is bitter, cantankerous, and looks out only for himself. He is tired of dealing with life's encroaching ennui; has seen everything and done at least half of the things that would make most people gouge out their eyes, and now believes, almost wholeheartedly, that the only things that matter in life are his own survival, and the acquisition of money -- the latter only because money, no matter how old Kakuzu gets, will never lose its importance. Kakuzu is quick to anger, quicker to sarcasm, and loves to mess with people's heads whenever he can. He lives life to its fullest and wears many different "masks", creating whatever persona he may need at a moment's notice and acting however someone would expect him to act whenever it would serve his own needs. More often than not, Kakuzu will befriend someone simply to gain somesort of advantage over them.

Powers and Abilities

Due to some unknown ability/transformation/surgery in his past, Kakuzu is able to extend his life indefinitely through the extraction and incorporation of foreign human hearts into his person. He can possess five human hearts at once, and is able to turn them into monstrous, shadowy creatures that obey his every command once they are detached from his body.

Each shadow can use a certain element, and is also a powerful force to be reckoned with when they work together, though if and when all of them are destroyed, Kakuzu also dies. His body is also made up of many different black "threads" that he can control mentally, though the extent of what he can do with these threads is never really explored.

- Thread abilities/manipulation toned down from the monstrous amounts of threads used consecutively in the manga to about as many as needed to extend any given body part/make a tendril/weapon/ect twenty or less feet long. He can extend a maximum of fifty feet of thread, but looses control/cohesion of anything solid he makes out of the thread after twenty feet.

- The maximum number of golems that can be active at any given time is reduced from five to two, with any other golem summoned either completely going berserk and vomiting out the heart it has inside of it, simply not being responsive, or taxing Kakuzu to the breaking point and unconsciousness.

History

Kazuku is a missing-nin from Takigakure and Hidan's partner, a partnership neither is very fond of because of their differing personalities/beliefs. On a whole, Kakuzu is an insanely greedy individual, prioritizing things in terms of how much they are worth and finding money to be the only thing that he can depend on.

Kakuzu's favorite source of income is collecting bounties while carrying out other missions, even putting up with Hidan's religion since it allows him to collect bounties faster. His history as a bounty hunter seems to be extensive, as he is on friendly terms with every bounty collector he meets and even seems to have memorized the information and worth of some of the more dangerous bounties.

This view of money has caused Kakuzu to refer to himself as the "Treasurer of Akatsuki", though it is unknown if this is an actual position.
