In this chapter, Bruno crawls underneath the fence to help Shmuel look for his father. Bruno and Shmuel spend almost ninety minutes looking for him, before being taken 'marching' by the soldiers. Bruno never returns back to the other side.

 It was a rainy Friday.  Bruno was disappointed as he thought the adventure would’ve been a very exciting one.  Bruno wore a rain coat and boots and walked over to the fence where Shmuel was.  Shmuel was waiting there and Bruno was very happy that he was.  He gives Bruno the striped pyjamas uniform, and Bruno sneaks into the other side of the fence.  They start exploring the place to find Shmuel’s father, and Bruno decides to go home after not finding him.  Just after that, ten soldiers call them, and they push Bruno and Shmuel and the other Jews into a gas chamber. They are killed soon after.
