"I'm not surprised," Carth replies, frowning. "You took a serious blow to the head. You're probably having all kinds of strange dreams. I wouldn't worry too much about it." You neglect to mention the dream you had prior to your explosive exit from the Endar Spire, and try instead to focus your fuzzy vision on Carth as he explains your situation. According to the Republic pilot, your escape pod crash-landed here on Taris a couple of days ago, and Carth himself dragged your unconscious body from the wreck to this abandoned apartment in the planet's Upper City. You thank him for his efforts.
"You don't have to thank me," he says awkwardly, dismissing the praise with a deprecating wave. "I've never abandoned anyone on a mission, and I'm not going to start now. Besides," he adds, "I'm going to need your help. Taris is under Sith control. Their fleet is orbiting the planet, they've declared martial law and they've imposed a planet-wide quarantine. But I've been in worse spots."
You take in the news as Carth continues, and wonder what your next move should be. You have no idea what you're supposed to do, or where you're supposed to be, now the Endar Spire is gone; you can't seem to recall anything beyond your recent Republic service, and your memories shimmer like the hazy sun outside. Still, you latch onto a familiar name in your confusion: Bastila.
"Bastila is the key to the whole Republic war effort," Carth explains, noting she was a Jedi with the strike team who killed a Darth Revan, the former master of Malak, the Sith Lord controlling the quarantine forces here. "But nobody will be looking for a couple of common soldiers like us. And if we're careful we can move about the planet without attracting notice; a luxury Bastila won't have. While you were out I did some scouting around. There are reports of a couple escape pods crashing down into the Undercity. That's probably a good place to start."
Carth suggests using this abandoned apartment as a hideout and base to begin searching for Bastila. Just remember to keep a low profile," he warns. "I've heard some grim stories about the Dark Jedi interrogation techniques. They say the Force can do terrible things to a mind. It can wipe away your memories and destroy your very identity. But," he adds, more cheerfully, "I figure if we don't do anything stupid we should be okay."
