[edit] Backstory
When XANA broke free of the Supercomputer at the end of Season 2, he began to attack the real world. At one point, XANA devised a grandiose plan for World War Terminus, a nuclear holocaust, by instigating an escalating crisis between the United States, the Middle East and China. He was stopped by Team Lyoko at the last minute. The city then demolished the Factory. Lyoko and XANA were destroyed...or were they?

After defeating XANA, Team Lyoko graduated, grew up and went their separate ways.
Jeremie and Aelita: They became defense analysts for the French Military. Aelita was killed by terrorists in a bomb attack on the Ecole Militaire in Paris. In abject grief, Jeremie shut out the world around him and buried himself in his work. He was eventually transferred to Raven's Nest, a subterranean defense nexus buried deep in the French Alps.
Ulrich and Odd: Ulrich's relationship with Yumi fell through and the two went their separate ways. Ulrich moved with Odd to Florence, Italy (Odd's hometown). There, they own a batchelor pad and started their own film company. DR & S Films makes short movies and music videos.
Yumi and William: After breaking off with Ulrich, Yumi married William and the two moved to Japan. They set down roots in Tokyo, where William became a security guard for the Xanadu Corporation. Yumi got a job at the same company as a business consultant. It is important to note that the Xanadu Corporation specializes in creating virtual universes as vacation resorts, and their Scanner systems are not unlike those of Lyoko. They have outlets in almost every industrialized nation on the planet.
The other students and faculty of Kadic, including Sissi, for the most part stayed in and around the Paris metro area.
[edit] XANA's Return
When Jeremie is suddenly contacted by XANA, he is too numb to react. He calls the others, but they say he has gone mad. After some time, Jeremie takes matters into his own hands and tries to destroy the computer network system at Raven's Nest (XANA created a backdoor and a copu of himself through Lyoko to this network, as well as the systems of the Xanadu Corporation.) Jeremie is caught by his superior officer and declared a traitor to his country.
While Jeremie is awaiting trial, XANA suddenly commandeers the Xanadu Corporation's virtual reality and alters it to his tastes. He then programs monsters by the thousands and uses the Scanners to unleash them upon the Earth. Yumi and William manage to survive the carnage wrought on the Xanadu Corporation building and escape into an obliterated Tokyo.
All around the world, monsters spill from the Scanners and destroy everything and everyone in their path.
Jeremie is sprung from his prison by the destruction of the compound, and Odd/Ulrich were filming a movie in the Florence sewers at the time. All three survive the attack.
Within hours, our global civilization is annihilated and the survivors must flee to the sewers and subway tunnels. There, they set up "Survivalistan Communities" and begin a truly underground resistance movement. Jeremie becomes the Administrator of New Boulogne-Billancourt and finds himself overseeing Jim (his Commander of Defense Forces) and many of his old schoolmates. Odd and Ulrich set out for France to find Jeremie, while Yumi and William begin an epic journey across two continents to reach Jeremie's survivalistan community.
Meanwhile, XANA has his monsters smoke out many of the world's survivalistan communities and their occupants. In one move, he succeeds in destroying Noveux Paris and nearly every survivalistan community short of New Boulogne-Billancourt and three others.
With impending destruction staring him in the face, Jeremie begins to lose hope. Odd and Ulrich were trapped in Noveux Paris during the cataclysm, and Yumi and William are in a life-and-death struggle as they fight their way through the occupied surface world.
When Odd and Ulrich show up and hand a surprised Jeremie the test tube containing Aelita's hair that Jeremie materialized in "False Start", Aelita is brought back to life on the new Supercomputer. It is then that the four discover XANA's refuge: the artificial world of XANADU. The four must now make a strategy on how to respond to this threat from within the cyber world...

Jeremie brings Aelita back to life and XANADU is discovered. Meanwhile, intelligence is gathered that suggests that XANA rebuilt the Factory and is using it as a spawning point for his monsters. Plans for a hostile takeover of this locale are made...but will the haggered Defense Forces succeed?

Jeremie sends expeditions to XANADU...and quickly finds out that the rules on this world are quite unfavorable to intruders.

Yumi and William arrive in Port Tarobei, a mega city with a seaport. Hoping to commandeers a vessel and use it to reach mainland Asia, the couple is forced to fight off the city's monster sentries...anyway they can.

Jeremie decides that it would be wise for his Virtual Warriors (Team XANADU) to have a permanent base in the artificial world. A campaign is launched that could end in victory for humanity...or utter defeat.

In a major city on mainland China, Yumi and William find themselves being corralled through a University campus by XANA's monsters. This chapter is full of fight scenes, and has a shocker ending that will leave you clamoring for more.

With a base secured (named "New Lyoko" by Jeremie), a 24-hour rotating guard is established to defend the new base against XANA's armies. During one watch, XANA attacks and cuts off the warriors from the real world. Until Jeremie can repair the programs, five Virtual Warriors must contend with an entire legion of XANA's monsters.

Yumi and William find a major city on Germany's border with France that will finally allow them to enter the desired country. However, the two find that the Survivalistan Communities were obliterated long ago. A harried chase through the sewers and the surface world ends in...

Yumi and William finally arrive in New Boulogne-Billancourt on that community's annual Olympics. The two compete in the athletic competitions, mainly to relax their nerves after a number of years running through the Eastern Hemisphere. However, XANA manages to find a weak point in the community's defenses and expoits it. Mankind's last enclave in Western Europe is about to be wiped out, along with all hope of victory.

The remaining survivalistan communities of the world have known about XANADU since Jeremie announced it at large. They have sent troops and recruits to New Boulogne-Billancourt in a united effort to destroy XANA. However, something very peculiar is going on.

After learning that New Boulogne-Billancourt is the only surviving community on the planet and its citizens the last of the mankind, Jeremie is forced to conference with his citizens and contemplate their future while XANA gears up for the final annihilation of the human race.
