[edit] Part One: Cthulhu's Awakening
"Dream, 1 is 1. There is no way around it." "Mother, I'm sorry, but look at this." I held up a little scribble of paper. On it was the following:
-2 = -2
4 - 6 = 1 - 3
4 - 6 + 9/4 = 1 - 3 + 9/4
(2 - 3/2)2 = (1 - 3/2)2
2 - 3/2 = 1 - 3/2
2 = 1
Of course, it was wrong. I knew that. But it's always fun to make people think illogically.
"Dear, that sounds very complicated, but 1 will always be 1."
Foiled. Blast. Time to find another target.
That is, in a nutshell, my childhood. I had little friends, I liked numbers, and I liked big words because they made me sound smart. As I grew older, numbers became a more and more important aspect of my life. "If I can change this to this, then this this and this would change. Great. But I don't want this to change....oh, look , I can change this then!" Of course, this little obsession of mine did not endear me to the family bank, which in the end put a photo of me in front of their bank, with a little note attached to it, saying something along the lines of "If you see this patron, kindly show him the door."
Another nasty little hobby of mine was a study of the occult. Not nearly as much of an obsession as my precious numbers, but enough to alarm my family. Well, heighten their alarm. Oh, no blood sacrifices or anything, I didn't actually believe in the stuff, but it gave a very interesting appreciation of Humans and their need to believe in a higher power. The one deity that fascinated me the most was out of a book written by an ancient human author by the name of Lovecraft. Cthulhu. Bringer of chaos, destruction, madness, and a whole bunch of wonderful things. If this guy was that bad, why did people worship him? Bah. Humans.
Unfortunately, I was forced to take my hobbies elsewhere after changing the wrong number and losing a couple million credits of the family money. People are so touchy about credits. I promised that I could get it back (I just needed to change another number), but that only made it worse. In the end, I was "shown the door" of the family estate. Undaunted, I fiddled with some more numbers, gained some money, bought my very first ship, a Sabre Mark IV that I christened "Cthulhu's Scout", and took off into the unknown.
