Donahue was picked by [[New England Revolution]] as a draft pick in 2005. In two seasons he was able to play 45 games in the MLS scoring 14 goals. In July 2006, He was part of the MLS All-Stars team that played and beat [[Chelsea]] 1-0 in a friendly game. He was the very player who made an assist to [[Dwayne De Rosario]], who scored the goal.

The American however couldn't cement a place in Jesualdo Ferreira's side and only played 13 games in the Portuguese league, scoring only 2 goals.
